I believe it is an attempt to appeal to the "american patriot" element. We're founded on rebellion against a king after all.

The left figured out in the past few years (especially since the election) that the mask off "fuck american and everything about it" tactic was costing them a lot of support so they're trying to find a new messaging strategy. There's lots of evidence of this, telling protestors to wave american flags for example, saying "elon is a foreigner he shouldn't influence government" and so on.

They're pretty bad at it and anybody who's been paying attention for the past 10 years knows they're completely full of shit so it's an uphill battle.

It shook me a few years ago when the bin Laden letter was trending as being "rediscovered," and I realized I was surrounded by adults who don't remember reading it when it first came out because they weren't born or they were like 3 years old.
