Why are you bringing up retreads? Retreads are legal in America, but you’re not even buying retreads. You’re buying used tyres with ‘70% of tread’ left. You have no idea where they came from, if they are matching, if they were rotated properly if they were even from the same vehicle, if they were ever damaged, etc. That’s a stupid risk to make for something that doesn’t even cost much compared to other major components of the car. The tyres are the single most important performance and safety component of a vehicle. And someone also pointed out that the tyres may have been stolen. The shop may lack insurance, skirting labor laws, taxes, and other issues to maintain a lower price, and you’re feeding into that industry while hurting the local businesses that actually care about safety and quality.
