You also can’t discount the very natural sense of obedience and fear a child has for their father. Nick doesn’t have to be Mr. Universe to physically force compliance from someone who grew up with a healthy sense of respect and fear for him. And there’s a degree of shock and disbelief that a kid will have when their parent assaults them, which manifests as “letting it happen” in the moment.

This is why it’s so fucked up when a parent abuses a child. It’s not just a physical power dynamic at work, it’s the entire relationship that victimizes the minor into letting it happen.
