Anime's first "golden age" in the west was in the 80s. From there it ramped up in the 90s and early 2000s. Anime isn't really all that niche these days but it's a medium that has a lot of stories.

Most of the internet is policed and Kiwifarms is really one of the few places that won't ban you for saying the quiet parts of how certain aspects of our society are run out loud, which is probably why there's a wide range of ages when it comes to users.
