Infected Selfshipping / Yumeshipping Community - Autists who think that Draco Malfoy and Astarion are their actual husbands, plagued with predators and people spending 50k for animations

I've been watching waifuists and tumblr fangirls since the early 10's, but never in my life have I seen this jealousy problem being a thing until now.

I think they always existed, but there was a cultural shift. They were fewer and farrer inbetween because it was (generally) understood that you were a weirdo who was rocking the boat by picking fights over your favorites. Rocking the boat for any reason in general was frowned upon, probably because those women had real jobs and families to tend to that were more important than slapfighting because Emily is Naruto's #1 Kunoichi Waifu. The kinds of horror stories that'd go viral and get gossipped about all over like an urban legend back then are just your average Tuesday now. The consequences of letting every little quirk and mental illness not only be accepted but encouraged..

Back then, people would look at you weird if you said that you were Sans's waifu or whatever, but now it's 2025 where those people have practically become non-existent due to the idea that "cringe culture is dead". It's like a significant shift in the ecosystem where the predators were removed, leaving the prey to become overwhelming. Without someone to put these people in their place, in the nicest way possible, they're just gonna keep spreading and become even more toxic.

I think it’s because in most fandom spaces it’s never really worth picking a fight with someone else over this it’s just morphed this way because younger zoomers really have no fandom etiquette.

I don’t remember specific people that would be possessive over which bishie they wanted to fuck and I was in some pretty big friend groups because of the fandoms I participated in. Either I hung around non psychopaths (unlikely), or they would just leave on their own/get ousted because they were vibe killers.
The sudden rise in this behavior is probably because fandom has sloppified somewhat. It’s no longer about your enjoyment of the thing, it’s about how you can make the thing a core defining trait of your personality, and it also makes it easier to CONSOOOOOOOM PRODUCT that way.

Also it would be ‘Sans is your husbando’ not ‘I’m Sans’s waifu’

Which is funny in itself because a fairly common argument in favor of selfship that I've seen is that it's another expression of how much someone enjoys something... Ignoring that that doesn't exactly justify rampant consumerism, nor does it change that it's spergs being overly attached to meaningless things even in its least-harmless state (which, IMO, would be "sharers" shipping for the hell of it, who don't take it so seriously that they're describing themselves with crazy idol fan terms or cultivating mentally-ill behavior).

When I was like 12 and had obsessive crushes over fictional characters, sure I would get possessive over them. And when I had friends who had mutual crushes, we would sometimes playfully fight over them. But I don't recall any serious fights over it. In the end, we knew they were fictional characters. Although I do remember around that time having a rivalry with someone on a message board over our crush on a particular character.

The difference here, though, is that I was a tween. I grew out of that kind of thing. (This was also the very early 2000s so internet was very different.) And part of the reason I grew out of it? Bullying. Well, sort of. My friends group at the time all had their fictional crushes and we would talk about them. One of them was a huge bully of mine (but was in my friends group... look, girls are awful) and when she decided it was really stupid to have fictional crushes, I immediately attempted to quash mine to avoid her wrath. It then later just organically disappeared.

I hate making a case for bullying but I do think it has value. Unfortunately, these people run into their hugboxes and validate each other and say, "uwu it's perfectly normal to be absurdly possessive over fictional characters!" This is a less extreme version of hugbox validation, with the more extreme ones being disgusting fetishes and troon shit.

But with me being a tween at the time, this is partly why I look upon this community with, "Aw, I remember when I was like that! How cute!" and have some sense of nostalgia and longing for my youth. And I miss being 13 and having crushes on everyone... Now I have become so stone-hearted. Sigh. I think these people are young but not necessarily tween/early teen. I see a lot of late teens/early 20s and older.

Arrested development is at an all time high with people being so online now-a-days.
I still don’t have a big issue with it until they act like any of the people posted in this thread.

I wasn't aware that one of the community submissioned features was a selfshipper, now I know that.

I haven't seen this mentioned yet, but since he's in the title, behold:

Screenshot of a screenshot, but it's quite hard to find the original post these days. Imagine transporting that monstrosity. Would it go in the front seat or does it get shoved in the trunk like a mob movie?
Whys it always bloody BG3fags
