On Wednesday night, protestors marched peacefully from Capitol Hill to downtown Seattle as part of a demonstration. The march began with a 7 PM rally at Cal Anderson Park, a frequent gathering place for protests in Seattle.
Seattle police monitored the event from a distance. While most of the march was peaceful, at 10 PM officers intervened when some individuals set fire to a dumpster at 3rd Avenue and Marion Street.
Police staged near the group while they waited for the Seattle Fire Department to arrive. Individuals from the group confronted them, throwing bottles, rocks, and concrete chunks at them.
A protestor threw a large firework at officers, but no one was injured.
Police issued dispersal orders and moved the crowd out of the area making eight arrests for assault and obstruction.
Bellevue Police Department provided additional bicycle officers for this event through a mutual aid request.
