Getting rid of slavery in certain farms is going to be the hardest part. It's too bad progressives always wanna burn down their hoods and constantly talk about the horror of bigotry and slave labor, yet never decide to put a bullet in the farmers who use this type of labor. You would think also after romanticing Stardew Valley and animal crossing 24/7 while claiming to be in love with the lower class, they would take these jobs in a heart beat.

A couple of months back, I emailed Trump's White House site and suggested a few things that would help convince Americans to take seasonal jobs such as farm work.
1. Let able-bodied EBT/Medicaid recipients work the harvest season without penalizing their gibs. Just let them keep the money from part-time temporary agricultural work. This may be appropriate for hospitality in some cases, if it's genuinely seasonal. The "part time temporary" qualification should be mandatory for this program.
2. No taxes on seasonal work.
3. Let seasonal work count for work requirements for government programs.
I'm interested to see if his "dealing with it" involves any of these things.
There's a lot of talk in California about bringing back the Braseros program, which gave wetbacks 4-month visas to work the harvest season, and it DID work---in 1958. It wouldn't work any more; none of them would go back nowadays.
I just thought of an incentive to get them to go back at end of season: Remittances are taxed at an increased rate, let's say...15%. Then if Paco follows the terms of his visa, and
does go back at the end of the season, he gets a refund on those remittance taxes, so his remittances are only effectively taxed at 7.5%. If he renters the country legally on a temp visa again next year instead of sneaking across the border, then he again, gets a refund the previous year's remittances, down to an effective rate of 5%. If Paco violates the terms of his visa, he's now on the hook for an effective remittance tax rate of 30%, is deported immediately, and will not be eligible for a temporary seasonal work visa until those back taxes are paid.
Carrot and stick.
We need to incentivize these jobs for Americans, starting with fair wages. There is no job that "Americans won't do" if it's properly compensated. There are Americans plumbing shit-stopped pipes in 100 degree weather right now, because being a plumber pays. Don't try to tell me that Americans won't pick a little fruit if they're given the opportunity and the money that the job merits.
