You Know What Grinds My Gears? - Things that personally piss you off

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
I hate how deranged pastors are the only people still using shortwave in the US, because my crappy radio can't pick up anything else.
I will say though, when it autoscanned frequencies and immediately went to some guy saying "Love is love - that's a lie straight out of Hell" I giggled a bit.
Here's an example of what you can expect, not my video of course.

What low-value women consider housework, like that one who charged her husband for basic chores. If you ask an ugly women, sitting and watching TV while the laundry is going in the background is 2 hours of hard work.
I don't know why doing stuff that we expect young teenagers to be able to do by themselves needs to be championed so much.

My bank’s app got a redesign. It used to have everything in a neat, professional one-page layout.
Now it’s got that huge fucking text-bright colors-allegra illustrations-everything is five clicks away,drag-and-drop-app-builder BULLSHIT fucking look to it.
You know- that kind of shit design that either comes out of either pajeet hands, or from “expensive private graphic arts school that dumbasses with rich parents who only fail upwards go to”.
All functionality sacrificed to look worse.

I’m making a mountain out of a molehill, it’s really this kind of thing as a trend that I fucking hate, rather than just this specific example (although the fact that it’s my banking app does make it so much worse)
Gears status: rusty and very ground.
It’s a legitimate complaint. I’ve noticed over the last few years that function continues to get removed in favor of form to where apps were actually more advanced in 2020 than they are in 2025. With each major “update” I know that some features keep getting taken out…or made worse and then eventually taken out. So now everything is bright and colorful but barely functional.

An example is my local bank. They had an app that used to allow mobile deposits. During a major redesign, they removed that feature and they have no intention of bringing it back anytime soon. No announcements about it going away, it just disappeared during an update. This is a feature they had since like 2015 or some shit but now it’s gone.

Fed Ex can't be bothered the ring the door buzzer, so they just leave packages sitting outside my apartment building's entrance and silently mark it delivered.
At least they delivered. I fucking LOATHE FedEx. Every single time I have issues with them to a point I ask people, like on Ebay, to NEVER use FedEx. They do delivery attempts without leaving any sort of notice or paper, and trying to change your delivery adress or date going through their support? Fucking nightmare.

And last time they sent me a warning for a invoice that I apparently never paid, THREATENING me with legal action. The killer? That fucking invoice arrived 2 DAYS LATER.

The ONLY good thing I can say about FeDex is that they weatherproof parcels pretty nicely with their white plastic packaging.

This is a very spergy ausitstic whine for me, but I really don't like how a lot of modern open-source/volunteer development doesn't want to deal with version numbers or the basic concepts of fully building a standalone product. It's always gotta be a rolling release thing beacuse the development people are too prideful (not lazy, too prideful) to go through a code freeze or alpha-beta system or anything like that.

Two semi-recent projects officially changing to this rankle me, and that's Dolphin Emulator and LibreOffice. Both very good programs, yeah, but now they both have this system where there basically is no such thing as proper version numbers.
First is LibreOffice. They had their own versioning number scheme that worked perfectly fine, but because they were precious open-source software and they had to have that perfect syncronization with Ubuntu and their versioning model (which is probably one of the main sources of this kind of cancer) instead of making their own proper releases at their own pace they decided to lose all originality and become exactly like them, with year and date version numbers galore. Come on, at least try to be your own program. If Firefox wasn't on version 140 or so as of right now I bet you they would have switched to that exact same kind of scheme too.

For Dolphin, the one I'm more pissed about they once were properly making versions and gearing up development-wise for major releases up through 5.0, but ever since then it's just been adding stuff whenever and posting progress reports with no such thing as a 6.0 even thought about. They kept up the facade of the numbering system until about a year ago when they finally just said fuck it (and adopted that same year-based versioning scheme). And of course, looking at the reasoning, it's not because the stable release system was bad, not because there was tons of bugs in the emulator, but because it simply made them unhappy to work on fixing bugs that weren't directly related to what they wanted to do right then:
During a feature freeze, all merges are halted except bugfixes. Once all of the regressions from the previous release are resolved, Dolphin would launch a Stable Release, and then feature merges would reopen. By holding developers' fun projects hostage, feature freezes coerced developers to contribute to the bug hunt. After all, the more developers pitched in and fixed bugs, the sooner their cool project could get merged into Dolphin! And it worked. Bugs were fixed and Stable Releases were launched. However, feature freezes were miserable and costly. During a freeze, Dolphin's development would stall for months at a time, morale would plummet, new developers were repulsed, and sometimes long-term developers would get tired of it all and just leave.

What is so wrong with having to focus on a full-picture product? If you care about making a program that works for everyone and is as bug-free as possible it should not make you miserable. It comes off to me that the devs are letting their autism run rampant and deliberately choosing the one way of development that they know doesn't lock them into a timetable with any deadlines, and doesn't pressure them in any way to work on a part of the program they're not ultra-interested in ever. It's the ultimate individualism, and it's retarded. You should have more approachability to proper expectations. "It'll be done when I choose to get around to it, I don't care if the obvious bug has been around for years I'm just too lazy to bother caring right now" should not be the be all end all of how you make things in your free time. There's no want whatsoever to see a list of problems and dedicating yourself to trying to zero it out, instead the constant tinker-tranny drive wins and you've got to spend that time working on a supreme component rewrite that will take years if you ever finish it at all. I hate hate hate that way of thinking more than is probably healthy but it seems too many in the dev sphere have this kind of thinking. Care about the full team and product you are a part of more than yourself for once.

modern open-source/volunteer development
Thers a lot more to complain about that side of the internet than just version numbers. I'm sick to death of the autist who run that sort of shit thinking everyone only uses their product for the love of coding or some gay shit. Software is a tool. I shouldn't have to compile it myself, I shouldn't need to run it via a command line, I shouldn't need to download 35 other pieces of software just to run whatever the fuck software you made. Its like a physical tool. When I go to a hardware store to get a wrench, you just get the wrench in the size you want and it's ready to use. They don't give you a lump of steel, ask you to buy a mould and a furnace and expect you to smelt the damn thing yourself.

Like most shitlibs I read Manufacturing Consent in high school and saw that Adam Curtis doc. I've come away thinking they were wildly overestimating the public’s capacity for thought. Does anyone actually take legacy media seriously anymore? But that doesn’t stop people from contorting themselves into agreement with whatever ruling class consensus is being spoon-fed that week.

Man when I used to be obsessed with shortwave radio for a few years, yeah I had picked up a few stations before from religious nutjobs. They dominate the FM frequency of radio too, moreso if you end up in the south, but they're also everywhere in even the northern territory of the US. Top 40 hits, boring sports stations, public radio and these religious morons are all that is in existence for radio. Everyone is best just getting Sirius or buy up an old ipod and get a cable to play your music through. Nobody has any business listening to the radio anymore.

Anyone today wants to feel special for doing something, even if it is drawing air. I'm sure they forget the existence of their hands and one day are so amazed that they have hands and got to feel to tell someone how great it is to have hands.

Foolishly hopped onto social media last night and was met with multiple people melting the fuck down and making virtue signals about the "No Kings" protests (or whatever they're called). Funnily enough, most of these people are canadian or australian (reliably, the irony was totally lost on them), and were specifically taking umbrage with orange cheeto hitler.
What I'm curious about is what makes them think they have any space to criticize the government of a country they have no ties to. Nobody cares about the opinions of a bunch of drunks living in a former angloid penal colony, nor about those from a country whose defining attribute is "we're not americans, also import more jeets plx, also it is imperative that we sell our entire west coast to china as quickly as possible"

I take pride in being an apolitical fence-sitting cuckold, but nonamericans obsessing about the US and the US political apparatus are eye rolling and obnoxious. I have to constantly restrain myself from chimping out. It signifies how affluent their lifestyles actually are if they've got the time and means to complain about things, people, and places that will never affect them at all

nonamericans obsessing about the US
On that note, I never want to hear the word “Australia” again. We're not even allies now. The only reason it’s in the news every ten minutes is because this dying lizard man can’t fix elections here or there like he used to, so he’s rerouting his impotent rage like we're one of his ex-wives.

I will push back on this slightly. While terrestrial radio in general has declined massively post Telecommunications Act of 1996, there are still some fantastic radio stations in the US. I have not traveled to every square inch of the country by any means, but from the the places I have been to, I can confidently say that Nashville is one of the best radio markets in the country. If I lived there, I could happily listen to the radio whenever I was in the car or even at home, without having to even think about grabbing my phone to stream something.

Thread tax: a lot of, if not the majority of, AM and FM stations in the US are too loudly/aggressively processed these days. Definitely grinds my gears.
