I'd like to take this moment to talk about how much I fucking hate Wherwin.

What really gets me about him is that as far as I recall he's somewhere around 28 years old these days. At that age it's one thing when you treat the game as a mere hobby, a creative outlet of sorts, as for example AbstractDark who I recently learned was 33 or something. But it's a completely other thing to be that age and make culture war commentary video essays about Geometry Dash.
Does he not have anything better to do with his time? You say he tried to break into the mainstream breadtube ecosystem which is not something I'm personally familiar with about him, but I suppose it would make sense if they didn't want him that he would return to something he feels more at home with. From the handful of arguments I have seen him make as a passive bystander, he doesn't seem too particularly bright so I guess I find him mostly pathetic.

The thing about his perspective is that these insecure slop enjoying, Nexus video watching, Bli level playing, daily chat chatting, extreme demon consuming, Culuc preview glazing people are primarily children and other kinds of developmentally incomplete beings. Not to say it's necessarily wrong, but are you really going to be the guy on a moral crusade against the retarded children of the world watching slop on the Nexus channel. It's a completely one-sided feud of people high on their own supply, against a demographic that isn't even aware of this vendetta against them. Are there not better things to be worrying about?
It was pretty funny when one of those guys said that the problem with the Nexus channel is that he dictates popular consensus through what he uploads, as if the horde of 11 year olds watching on their ipads would suddenly get really into arthouse faggotlevels if he started uploading them.

What has he done past 2018 you ask, after quitting his DeviantArt & his MyAnimeList (where he also admitted he was a lolicon, btw), he went to make Music on his newgrounds (and reupload on Soundcloud & Bandcamp). He also had a Twitter which was seemingly hijacked around November 2020, and we haven't seen him ever since. However, it does paint a picture as to what happened. He was hijacked around this time:

Now, onto why he really quit his channel. He quit it because he wanted to move on from Geometry Dash and onto making art (and goon to rule34 & e621). While he said he put in restrictions to ask people about what happened, he reveals that he lost access to the login of the TriAxis GD account (because he gave the password to someone and they changed it) and therefore could not change the YouTube channel url linked to his Geometry Dash account. He then ends this off by saying he's blocking anyone who even dares retweet the said message and is still involved in the games community. This is a real dick move.
