Even before WW2 began the media wasn’t exactly portraying the Nazis in a good light and the U.S.’s allyship with Britain all but guaranteed that the U.S. would be on the side of the allies even if no troops were actually committed. Even if public opinion was sympathetic to the Allies many Americans were still weary of sending troops to participate considering the brutality of WW1 was still fresh in everyone’s memory.
