All the chaos going on in the world here's an episode.
The Sharon Stevens case is particularly important. Extremely wholesome. Possibly one of the most wholesome lost love cases in the entire series. (Yes I know her overbite but considering the stuff she went through its understandable)

Boy did I go down a hole here. I looked up this case, just a regular google and found, of course, the Unsolved Mysteries Wikifandom. But... then I also found this post on Reddit (8 years old, but with posts as current as 4 months ago) about a user who stumbled across a post from another foster child, who says the Zelinkski's abused him horribly. And then someone claiming to be the sister in that family also pops up and it's just super weird.

Sitcomsonline post, leading to Mark Schumann's blog (now gone) but I found this post from 2010. This post is odd, because while "Lynne" mentions at one point that she was adopted with John, Mark and David, Mark's blog post here doesn't mention a David at all.

Note: There is a Mark Schumann in Baltimore that now does homeless outreach and photography but from the About Info on his page it does not appear to be the same guy - this article from 2014 is paywalled that I couldn't use a site to remove it and the pictures between this article and the 2010 post don't look that similar, and the background stories given don't match up.

Anyway. It was just a weird rabbit hole to fall under while I was just looking for more information on what appeared to be an entirely glurge story.

To this day I still haven't heard a convincing solve to Elisa Lam's case. Has anyone gotten around to finding how she actually got into the water tanks?
She walked up the stairs, through the open doors, climbed up a ladder that had been left there by maintenance and jumped in. The hatch had been also left open and it was still open when her body was discovered, but were shut by the discoverer in his shock and panic.

Pretty much every mystery in the Lam case is covered by, "Mentally ill young woman off her meds and in a severe state of psychosis staying alone at a severely run down massive hotel where one maintenance bloke was doing the work of twenty". If you haven't watched the Netflix series I recommend that you do so. It goes into a lot of areas that most other investigations don't.

I saw some interesting speculation on Reddit (I think?) that Lam's Tumblr was full of skyline photography, and that it's possible she broke onto the roof to take photos, and slipped into the water tank. Or that she was running to escape some delusion or out of panic, and accidentally fell in to the tank.

Regardless, her death can entirely be chalked up to misadventure and unfortunate coincidences (that a guest could get onto the roof, that the water tank was left open, etc).

@Rotogravure
Yeah, I am aware of Mark Schumann's post. I know that it is possible that one child's experience is different from other foster kids, I have come to the unfortunate conclusion that he is extremely mentally ill. His story comes across with massive embellishments. It is suspicious. The sister seems weird too, to be honest.

Look at it this way: you know Mommie Dearest, the book and film of the same name by Christina Crawford? It is about her life growing up under film legend Joan Crawford. (If not; just google "NO WIRE HANGERS!") It started the whole tell all children of celebrities memoir craze. Christina's book came with massive backlash. Her late brother backed up her claims, but the two youngest girls denied it. Hollywood was split on it. Like severely split. Joan left Christina and her brother out of the will. There have been rumors. The most common theory (@The Last Stand can back me up on this) is that Joan knew or was alerted to the fact that Christina was writing the book.

Anyway fast forward a few years later to the infamous film. Faye Dunaway goes on the press junket for the film. She basically says perhaps the most honest thing about the two women (which is saying something if you know how Dunaway is). She basically said that the only people who knew exactly what occurred are Joan and Christina and that its basically between them and God.

So we will never truly know if the Zelinsky's were abusive. But at the same time, it doesn't detract from them saving Sharon's life at all.

Correct, that’s the theory. From what I could find, there’s no substantial evidence that Joan knew about Mommie Dearest as it was published a year after her death. I'm sure she had suspicions, but she was a recluse during her final years. Actually, yes, from a biography, Not the Girl Next Door, here's Joan's comment about it:

“I think she’s using my name strictly to make money. I think this book will be full of lies and twisted truths. I don’t think my adopted daughter is writing this book just to hurt me. If her purpose were to hurt me, she has already accomplished it without going to the trouble of writing a book.”

However, many of her friends and Hollywood colleagues defended her character against the memoir. I'm sure there was behind the scenes stuff between them that we're not privy too. What is known was that Christopher, her adoptive son, was a troublemaker. Christina wanted to BE Joan Crawford out of spite.

I read a biography of Crawford many years ago, iirc the writer's conclusion was that both Christina and Joan were raging Cluster B trainwrecks, and that neglect, abuse and huge clashes between them both were a frequent occurrence in their household. Joan had some pretty severe BPD/NPD traits, and honestly, I doubt that there's many successful movie stars who don't. It's pretty common for mentally unstable parents to keep their instability masked to anyone outside of their house and close family, only to drop the mask the second public gaze is gone.

Which biography? And if that’s the case, what about the twins?

Gonna shill an old post of mine.

...that actually adds up.
At that time, it was commonly assumed there were no bed bugs in the province i live in, period. Explains why it was never mentioned.
But with bedbugs, you would get bitten over and over, every night, in perpetuity, until you got them taken care of. If you ever moved, if you took your beds with you, they'd follow.

This only occured once, which makes it super weird. It's consistent with bed bugs but, aside the random spot my sister got weeks on, it was an isolated incident.

Unless we somehow had only a single one in the house? We had a lone male mouse for over a year before i caught it, only discovered it was still around because my old cat kept hanging around the pantry at night.

If it's a single one count your blessings, each female can lay 200+ eggs throughout their lifespan. When it happened to me I didn't really think anything of it since they didn't bite my girlfriend for some reason and just bit me. I didn't know what they were until I heard people saying the got bed bugs after they bought beds or couches from the same furniture company. Then getting rid of them was hell.

The Matthew Chase case was bonkers. Fag goes out to an ATM. Is seen in security cameras footage. Suddenly a beaner appears next to him. Scary shit. Anyway he was found dead and it was later revealed the man in the photo was a gang member who apparently died in a shootout. Case was sadly closed.

I just remember Robert Stack gave an in depth explanation at the beginning explaining how ATM's work and what they were.

it may not have even been in your house. you wouldn't immediately notice it biting your so there may have been somewhere you went that had them and you only had one exposure and were lucky enough not to have hitch hikers. had a bar in the neighborhood that had bed bugs in the stools didn't figure it out for a while and never brought any home.
