King of the hill appreciation thread - Yup.

New teaser.
The animation is ugly but that was expected *sigh* I'm surprised the windows are transparent and they still draw the interior of connecting rooms. That was a really neat detail mentioned in the shows original animation bible. In the last few seasons they had started to draw opaque windows much more often and it sucked.
Hank pulling out a smartphone is weeeiirdd... but giving 4 stars is very accurate.

King of the Hill with rigged animation looks so ugly, the Beavis and Butthead reboot had the same problem. King of the Hill was a pretty basic frame by frame show, Mike Judge cartoons in general usually are. Which makes the idea of switching to cheap rigs redundant.

Part of what made KOTH feel real was that even though it wasn't extremely cartoony, the characters still had a sense of expressionism to them. They weren't dead eyed like the average post 2000 animated sitcom characters.

it could be worse

I don't mind AI being used in entertainment, but that only goes up to a certain point. It's one thing when some random Youtuber makes a video about presidents playing Pokemon because I don't expect him to hire voice actors and shit. But when it's Hollywood trying to recreate King of the Hill, I want some production value dammit.

i watched it a couple times trying to listen for what he's describing and i can't hear it. whatever he's talking about, i think it probably has to do with them trying to match the tempo of the music clips together with the tempo of the dialogue. that kind of thing works for a trailer i guess but it always sounds unnatural and you see this a lot in movie trailers, stapling random shit together to match this weird forced trailer pacing complete with contrived silent pauses that last a half second. i don't even know what those are trying to be other than "cinematic". koth being shoved into this editing style for a trailer is a square peg in a round hole. it feels like making it was handed off to a random hulu intern who doesn't understand the tone of the show.

Now THIS is what I was expecting the revival to be like. I knew the moment I saw that first leaked trailer it was just a raunchy fluff piece like that infamous Fox trailer. This teaser feels way more earnest and grounded like KOTH usually is, and definitely has me looking forward to seeing how the show turns out.

The only odd line I noticed was Bobby telling Hank that he's a professional now, near the end. It sounds like it could've just been weird delivery on the VA's part to me, though

I wish the animation didn't feel so plastic though.
It's a thing in newer animation. Older animated shows had the characters faces change and stretch drastically when they were angry or surprised or whatever. You could say it was over emoting but it was very charming and easy to see what emotion was being portrayed.

Compare Hank's bwahhhhhhhhh! circa 1997 to something like Bob's Burgers where the characters are screaming and yelling constantly but their facial expressions never change.

Are we going to address the elephant in the room that Hanks glasses aren't the classic thick rims as they were in the original run? He could have gotten a new pair during all that time but just feels kind of off. It really made it pop if you get what I mean.

Hank wouldn't want to be associated with the kind of hipsters who wear thick rims these days, so he had to make a change.

Saw someone say it looks like porn parody tier animation and that's exactly it
The animation looks atrocious but at least the tiny bit we see in the trailer seems like the general comedy is still there...
What would happen if one were two take the footage and run it at 60 FPS via ai? By adding some in between it could make the animation look a lot more fluid.

it'll looks like shit and we're still a bit off with that tech, and even then it still looks like shit because animation is 24 frames a second and trying to make it 60 frames is gonna result in some weird frame fuckery because it was never intended to be at that framerate. otherwise they'd animate at 30 fps because you can interpolate at that framerate.
