I would say so, yes, I'm going to give it to my priest tomorrow and see what I should do, pretty sure it's meant to be burned though.

Heads up, as a broken rosary/chaplet collector: first, get it repaired. Sounds like a chain rosary so it should be just fine. Second, in the case of rosaries that can’t be repaired conventionally, like missing beads, I recommend turning them into smaller one decades or chaplets. Missing some beads? Turn it into a Holy Face chaplet, or Infant of Prague. Got 33 of them unused? Turn it into a chotki for the Jesus Prayer.

There are a thousand ways to repair or recycle them without a permanent end like burying or burning! But get them blessed again in such an event.

While I understand having scruples, we have to be cautious about superstition. One suggestion I have, perhaps buy a couple of either cheaper rosaries, or maybe even something tougher like a paracord set, and leave the favorite at home. See if there’s a rosary repair lady in your (or a nearby) parish… there’s almost always one in more conservative areas, if you’re hitting a wall.

Yeah, I'll look into it, I put a bit of thought into it and I'm 90% sure I must have broken it because I was praying it when I went to sleep. Just ended up pulling it apart somehow and not noticed.

I have an authentic WWI pull chain rosary, and those things can really take a beating. Interestingly enough, my thanks to St. Rita upthread was finding two of my rosaries, including my priceless 1950s blue crystal set from Loreto. It was in a pouch with an insanely rare tin Japanese set from the early 1960s.

My “beat around” rosary is my fifteen year old crystal with St. Cecilia (my patron).

I’m such a dork. I love the history of sacramentals. I won’t begin to bore all of you with my medal collection.
