hot take, but these "POTS" symptoms birdie keeps complaining about sounds more like orthostatic hypotension to me. doctors are notoriously bad at confusing the two and thus accidentally diagnosing someone who actually has orthostatic hypotension with POTS and vice versa, because they basically share the same symptoms but with different root causes.

both have feelings of lightheadedness to the change of posture however the difference between POTS and orthostatic hypotension is that with POTS is a significant increase in heart rate upon postural changes, and orthostatic hypotension is a significant decrease in blood pressure upon postural changes.

one of the main reasons POTS is so misdiagnosed with orthostatic hypotension is because people with POTS, in some cases, may have their blood pool in the lower body, while one of the main reasons orthostatic hypotension is so misdiagnosed with POTS is because people with orthostatic hypotension, in some cases, may also suddenly feel their heart pulsating as their blood pressure drops, although it doesn't mean their heart rate has changed.

the reason i think birdie has orthostatic hypotension is because of what it's caused by. while both conditions are common with anemia, POTS is usually caused from either a virus (like COVID or measles which is why there is a surge of people having POTS lately) or from an illness you're born with as POTS is an autoimmune disease caused by a direct attack to your immune system. orthostatic hypotension, while can also be caused by underlying conditions, is more common and easier to get because it is also often caused by dehydration or an unhealthy diet, unlike POTS. orthostatic hypotension, depending on your situation, can sometimes (but not always) be cured, POTS can not be cured.

orthostatic hypotension is also more closely linked to being caused by anemia than POTS is, due to the fact that POTS is usually caused by illnesses you already have and you almost never get it on your own unless inherited, you usually only directly get POTS from anemia if you have sickle cell which birdie does not have, as she has iron deficiency anemia.

so yeah. the doctors probably confused her for having POTS when she could have actually had orthostatic hypotension. it is a common mistake, as they usually present the same exact symptoms, but it is on the doctors to pay more attention to how the vitals change and how it could have been caused.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Birdie never formally diagnosed with POTS? I seem to recall reading it somewhere, maybe from Queen?

correct, she was never formally diagnosed. but on tumblr birdie said the doctors asked her if she heard of something called POTS. putting two and two together, from how queen and synni has both pointed out her inconsistency with appointments, she probaly only never got a diagnosis because she never goes to appointments. she was just so lazy that she took that as she actually had POTS.

the doctors still probably confused her for having POTS, especially because "orthostatic hypotension" is not a very known term by the general public. POTS is also more of a pronounced chronic condition than orthostatic hypotension, as anybody can have sudden hypotension at least once. orthostatic hypotension is more 'normal' than POTS because a lot of people, even healthy people, can randomly feel light and blood pressure dropping for a second after standing up very quickly, especially and mostly when they just wake up. everybody knows the sensation, but not the term. because of this, not a lot of people who can potentially have chronic orthostatic hypotension consult with a doctor because they don't know that term. so unlike POTS, orthostatic hypotension is something that basically anybody can get, its just that only some people have it as an actual chronic condition that happens when you change positions in general, and those people are the people who are sometimes mistaken for POTS.

soctors are notoriously bad at misdiagnosing POTS without ruling other things out, LIKE orthostatic hypotension and other lifestyle habits or conditions.

how to be more precise between the two is to figure out the main characteristic. that's why for an official diagnosis and to rule the other one, you need to be monitored for a two week period with a monitor, as birdie said. if the main characteristic in your lightheadedness over that two week time is a rise in heart rate, it's POTS. if the main characteristic of your lightheadedness over that two week time is a drop in blood pressure, it's orthostatic hypotension.

although, because of what i just said, birdie never allowed herself to be examined for that long because she's lazy.

Lots of information lost to time or takes awhile to find cause of self righteous dramafags who wont release important info only they have

It also is just a messy process cause so much happened all at once within birdie drama when i was watching toastify’s video it was so so messy not cause of the format just cause things were constantly happening

turkey tom previously made a reaction video on the synnibear03 grooming situation a few months back and watched sophia’s video, so she’s definitely on his radar. it’s not unlikely he’d make a video about birdie, considering he’s made videos about other art freaks before.
