For whatever reason they picked the stupid name of one small slice of Texas instead of calling it Emancipation Day, probably as a psychological thing to make it feel like a grander and more established holiday (like a Halloween or Christmas or Easter) than it was.

I don't know about the rest of you, but all I see is "extra day off" and I'm fine with it. When people talk about Indigenous People's Day, I try to steer the conversation into creating a separate day for it so we all get another federal holiday.

I'm 40 so I assume when people start talking about war in the middle east it's already decided that there will be war in the middle east. It could be deftly handled with a quick in and out like the desert storm, it could just be an a missile bombardment meant be to shield a president from land trading or blowjob controversies like Clinton in 94, 98, 99, it could be a decade+ long war with Afghanistan, Iraq, it could just be Obama/45Trump era drone striking and regional destabilizing. But when the debate comes up it's usually just a mask for the decision that military operations are already greenlit and in the works.

Emancipation Day is already a federal holiday. The basic problem is that the white, college-educated, Gen X & Millennial women who run the Democratic Party now needed do something to show how much they love niggers and fight racism, and establishing a new holiday is a great, low-effort way to do that. MLK Day is taken, of course, as is Emancipation Day. George Floyd Day was no doubt considered, but it might have been too much of a stretch. Juneteenth is perfect, really, because by even knowing what it is, you signal that you are more tuned into social justice streams than other white people, and you get a chance to call somebody racist if they object to adding yet another Nigger Day to the federal holiday calendar.
