What's worse:
1. a series going on for so long it turns to shit and you lose all interest?
2. a series put on hiatus for so long you lose all hope of ever seeing a proper conclusion?
Definitely 1.

Yeah yeah, I know it's not anime or manga, but Song of Ice & Fire/Game of Thrones fans are going to end up going through both scenarios. lmaoooo.

you have to get pretty fucking bad for that to happen
just look at all the normalfag IPs like lost, GoT or walking dead.
depends how deep your into it, which I'd say is much worse when it comes to animu and mango. like did AoT ever recover (granted it was a slow decline anywas, not a hard crash, you could estimate where it goes), or oshi no ko for a more recent example - although the people in the know wouldn't trust the author after the whole kaguya stuff, so it was mostly a trap for newfags and secondaries.

save for Demon Slayer but that is the exception that proves the rule
wasn't there already some drama about certain arcs?

Definitely 1 for me. My Hero Academia shitting its brains out is why I will never trust a big shonen series to conclude satisfyingly again (save for Demon Slayer but that is the exception that proves the rule).
that's not really fair. The author was a relatively new mangaka, he only had two minor series under his belt. One had two volumes, the other had 5. MHA exploded in popularity and he kept it good for 40 volumes, which was probably some 35 books longer than it was supposed to be. You can see that MHA:Vigilantes is much shorter and the primary author is someone completely different. They probably had the entire storyboard done before they started drawing the first chapter.

I'm pretty sure the entire last battle in MHA was ghost written. Everything from when All Might showed up in a robot suit for sure, but probably a little before then too.

Two for sure, a part of my dark soul still felt hope that Netflix adapting Bastard!! would get the author to return home from getting smokes

1 for sure. MHA is a prime example of how stretching too much turns things braindead. Option 2 at leats gives you hope.

You forgot option 3: sudden cancelation. They done dirt on my Gundam X.

1 absolutely. At least with 2 it's still a good show/manga at the end of the day. You can't recover from a 1, but you can absolutely wait long enough for a 2.

2. You at least have fanfiction no matter what, but at least with 1 you have genuine closure.

Houseki no Kuni, xxxholic, are good examples of 1 for me, so much that I regret reading them, but I'm glad they at least ended unlike some shit out there. Like Twelve Kingdoms. I guess this is the One Piece or HxH question? Samurai Jack is a good western example of why 2 is worse, 13 years of not knowing if Jack made it back to the past, even if you didn't like some of the shit season 5 did you can't tell me that's worse.

Finding good fanfiction is really hard though. You're lucky if the author even finishes their rewrite or what if.

MHA's Length wasn't the problem, if anything I would say it is a little too short...because Deku goes from "Oh shit One for All is manifesting the quirks it absorbed along the way" to "I HAVE ALL 7 QUARKS AND MASTERED THEM" in like a single arc.

MHA's Problem was turning Shigiraki and All For One into Gods who couldn't be reasonably defeated.

You do have a point about being too short for the powercreep that happens in the series, but a shorter series may had warded off said powercreep by using the limited time to develop the story better.

There's also the fact that Shigaraki was a lame villain, stuck in a teenager "destroy everything" phase. His underlings were way more interesting than him and had more believable motives.

I am not even sure I would call it power creep.

It's just that "Enemy that can one shot the hero with a single touch" and "Enemy with Regeneration" being the same people makes the fight super lame, you can't wear them down cause they have regeneration.

2. The trick is that both aren't mutually exclusive. See Berserk.
Berserk ended when Miura died.

Why would you ever think anything good would come from Netfux? How many asian characters do you want nigger'd this time?

I wasn't hoping for anything from Netflix (and it was animated and a Japanese production for Japanese tastes even if it wasn't good) I was hoping the mangaka would finish his story, which, if memory serves, left Dark Schneider recently deceased and sent to hell.
