An interesting follow up story to the DoD training op near Tom's house I happened to come across. Secretive Russian-Made Mi-17 Helicopter Makes Unusual Appearance In Tucson. I glanced at the blurry video from the news articles and was surprised to see what I assumed was a Marine Corps CH-53 of whatever variant. The nearest Marine base is Marine Corps Air Station Yuma. I figured it was some hitters training out of AFB Davis for whatever reason. Turns out I was very wrong.
M-17s are associated with a couple different groups including an aviation wing that's blacker than the 160th Special Operations Air Regiment, the CIA, and there are contractor run M-17s used for training for more normal training. It seems likely it was a big boys from Seal Team 6 or Delta doing urban training.
If only there had been some monumental screw up and they breached Tom's house instead. He probably would have died and his family would have gotten a large settlement from the government.
