we'll never have another situation like Afghanistan, there's a few reasons they were unique but the main one is that there was no significant national unity, and the society there is so backwards the Taliban is actually a modernizing force. Iran is a well-developed country with a significant opposition movement to the Islamists, if we were to overthrow their government nation building is actually possible as long as it was not someone descended from the royal family and they didn't repeat the authoritarianism of the pre revolution state.
