This is all true. But we're talking about a massive industry with a massive and diverse consumer base.

If you look at something like mobile gaming and then read how much money that dogshit industry brings in, you might despair that something fundamental in the human psyche has been analyzed and perfectly gamed to sell virtual nonsense to defenseless marks and that the we're fucked as a species. But then you read further and discover almost all of the money made through mobile game microtransactions comes from a tiny number of whales. It's pathetic, but it isn't the end of the humanity.

How do we know if the market just hasn't figured out how to deliver exactly what coomers want directly to them online? What if that's what's happening, along with more and more people (with a variety of, uh, interests) getting online around the world instead of porn making the average user search out more extreme material? And I say "your average user," because I'm not convinced the average porn user is interested in extreme stuff. Probably specific stuff, but maybe not the craziest. Some mega-gooners definitely are into the hardest shit imaginable, but they might be the "whales" of the porn industry given how much time they spend gooning (I loathe this phrase, btw) and posting about it online.

As for the rise of shit like fauxcest porn plotlines, I wonder if this isn't like the problem that "news" outlets now have, where the headlines and stories have to compete with everything else online to grab the attention of viewers. It's distorted the already unreliable news media into something grotesque. Why wouldn't porn have to do the same thing to get attention in a sea of free vanilla porn?

I'm open to the idea that porn is a negative influence on society (and I think it probably is), but I need evidence. And if it is, the right answer won't be government censorship.

I've long thought that part of why so much step-mom-incest stuff exists is that it establishes characters, a scenario and their relationship to each other very easily, no writing necessary.
