I'm not sucking Trump's dick on this one. He said not even a week ago that he's fine with Israel doing what it's doing but the US is not getting involved, and then now he openly did a press conference where he said we're involved and it's because Israel asked us to. God damn it. This was a mistake. Can't excuse it, can't even joke about it. I can think of no strategic interest of the USA that was furthered by this, but I guess I'm tin-foil hatted enough to give more than a little credence to this not in fact being about the USA. But I'm honestly no even sure how this does anything for Israel, either.

The only silver lining I can see about this is that the Ukrainian leadership should now realize how well and truly fucked they are and negotiate for whatever they can get. If their masters at Blackrock allow it, hopefully.

Iran has no "friends" geopolitically, and there is no possibility of military retaliation beyond Islamic terrorist attacks domestically.

But on the geopolitical stage, this has shown that the US is continuing its lopsided patronage of Israel, and will take actions that go against it's own interests to that regard. While this is business as usual, given Trump's campaign promises and platform, it was ambiguous up until this point to rivals if this would continue, and any machinations that were being held off may start clicking into motion.

The US is like a strong poker player with a chip advantage who due to superstition refuses to play A10 spade suited. His refusal to play it goes against all logic and against his own benefits, but he's a strong enough player in spite of it that he still maintains a lead at the table.
