That's the interesting thing. Some of what the Vtubers do is innocent enough. It is not surprising or unnatural for lonely men to enjoy para-social relationships with women. Not necessarily moral or good but nothing to write home about.

It's a weird thing psychologically, but people who are superfans want to support the creator in every way they can. They will directly donate AND use the creator's affiliate links. I think part of the reason is that they want their oshi to feel "successful," so they want to show these sponsor companies that the creator is a productive advertiser. Another part of it is that the fan feels closer to their oshi when they spend money on other things and a percentage of what they spend goes to the creator. It's like a proxy relationship. It's extremely parasocial and gross, and difficult to understand.
I'm neither pro-Jim or anti-Jim, but your yardstick for morality should not be "as long as they're not Ethan Ralph they're fine."

It's not about being naive, it's about tolerance and principles. Sorry if I didn't find the "people who watch vtubers are basically pedophiles" joke particularly funny. As a professional Jim watcher for like 10 years at this point (I watched his original gamergate video when it was released on IA), I do not rank it among the best of his biting satirical comedy. His standards have slipped. This is natural as you age, but commenting about how normalized anime pedophilia has become without any sort of castigation whatsoever, is not exactly what I envisioned for Jim in 2025.

I don't think there is any more to it than this. There is no "smoking gun." Some Jim fans feel betrayed because his current stance seems to be "if you can get rich being masturbation fodder for pedophiles, more power to you." But old Jim definitely would not have taken that stance. His unwavering support for v-tubers seems like a direct contradiction to the kind of content he got famous for making.
Thats fair, IMO this was the second worst Jim stream I've seen (the worst still being when he went over his medical records to prove he has canceraids) because he didn't provide any pushback on Kirsche on anything questionable she said
