UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Honestly, I’ve thought about joining Reform to chuck some money to tell the establishment to fuck off, then I wonder what will happen if some tranny is employed at whoever they sub contract for IT, leaks a members list, then Hope Not Hate and the Guardian ring my HR department ask why they’ve got a nazi working for them.

I wish I was joking.
As the Nazi in Raiders of the Lost Ark said, "That time is passed". Those cunts don't call the shots any more, and frankly no one cares what they think. They can't get you sacked for supporting a party that circa 40% of the British public are going to vote for in the next GE.

I do sympathise, and I know the feeling. I work in an industry where it was heavily presumed that you didn't vote for Brexit. But whenever one of my colleagues started going off on one at work, I would always take the opportunity to gently remind them that I "like most people" had voted for Brexit. While this probably didn't endear me to certain lefty colleagues, I won't be cowed. I don't go out of my way to share my political beliefs at work, but I also won't sit there while someone presumes to speak for me.

I’m in an environment that’s full of lefties, recently unionised, and I’ve been warned they’re playing games trying to get me sacked and to watch what I say because I told the rep I’m an adult who can stand up for himself and won’t join.

I’m the type of person this would work against even though I’d walk away with a seven figure payout if HR was that retarded (spoiler: HR is usually retarded.)

You know the classic argument that is given: "we need them for the economy". I realize today that there isn't anything the economy could give me that would be worth having backs and browns in my country, and certainly not handing over the whole bloody thing
You’ve kinda hit a nerve on my being quiet recently.

Are volumes of people required?
If you believe the Joe Rogan crowd and the ai/ quantum computing argument then the answer is no.

This I believe is driving the popularity of the rise of the anti migrant policy in the mainstream. The people at the top don’t need us devalued or replaced because they believe they won't need us at all. This reflects in the abortion/assisted dying bills and the massive investment in ai (also see trumps ban on blocking/limiting ai for the next 10 years).

My opinion is ai hallucinations reflects it’s basic faults and it is nothing more than a change in database ease of access that reflects the change in programming from cassette basic to JavaScript. It’s biggest difference is no more Boolean in your google searches.
This will be a generational mistake on the scale of the uncle that still has a 3D tv.

Thanks for coming to my ted talk, there will be no refunds.

Then, whilst I hope you don't lose your job, I hope that you take them to the cleaners if you do.

There used to be an insufferable little twat on X who worked for East Midlands Train (EMT) who was always running his mouth of about how the Union will protect him, until one day he called somebody a 'fucking queer weirdo'.

Now he's unemployed, lost his job, home, wife and kids.

Considering how he used to laugh at the misfortune of others and that foreign drivers would never do his job, it's very apt that the guy now doing his roster out of Nottingham station has been seconded from Spain (the guy was an ex-pat who drove for Connex and Southeastern).

The public vote has changed but the leftist power hasn't been removed yet. They can find ways to mess with you or report you to the police. There's the age old trick of a false assault accusation if they really want to mess with you. You have to be careful until the true believers have been cleared from small power positions.

If you need to know how a mailing list can come back to haunt you, just look at the EDL and National Front. If you joined at the very start before a single crime had been committed, you are blacklisted from the Civil Service and Police (guessing there's more services too but I haven't tried to apply for the NHS or Fire Brigade).

I've never been apart of the EDL or National Front but I think it's absolutely possible that in the next 30 years or so if Farage fails that the mailing list will disqualify Reform members from joining key services. The joke of course is that if the police or civil service had more people with backbones and not straight niggercattle who give off the illusion of apolitical but will sperg out about any government policy, then more things would actually get done.

Except that many Police Forces are no longer arresting people for 'mean words' here in the UK, as there's no space to lock them up in and there's currently a major backlog of CPS cases which would mean that (even if arrested) they would already be 'to time' once Court proceedings begin.

I'm still on my rainbow ban so instead it's a reply.

Yes they do and yes they can and will because they know they need to strip as much power as possible from anyone who wants change.

Remember that for all the bastions of delusion on both side of the fence shriek about "right" or "left" in the UK what we have is the Establishment. Those cold-blooded fucks would swivel from "trans women are women" to "gas the Jews" to "bomb the Middle East" without a flicker or sense of conflict.

Currently Reform is still a rebellion choice and punishing those they can for rebelling is status quo. In 4 years, if things follow current trends, when funds have been reallocated and politicians repositioned opposing the will of the people will be dangerous extremism and those calling Reform Nazis will be enjoying prison (stalker child).

Or if things change as noted above supporting dissident parties like Reform will be punished.

Remember that the people today punishing dangerous right wing views almost certainly a couple of decades ago were backing the police infiltrating left wing groups to the degree of fathering children for the sake of their cover. Monsters.

As someone who has been targeted for my political views merely because I operate quite bluntly, I hope you succeed. It was why I left the NHS, hands down the most toxic environment I have worked in. To survive, you have to be a brain slug practically.

I think Starmer will break away from the US and go full commie because he does not want to lose power. I have thought his ace in the hole is to do what Romania did and brand them as a far-right group, and then use the new laws going through parliament to isolate them fully. There is a saving grace though, he is too stupid.

I suspect the Police chiefs told the Home Office to stop being stupid with the "naughty words". As it is a waste of Police time, and the queues for the courts are over 250,000, and there are fewer than 100 prison spaces. On top of that Police chiefs have stuck their heels in the ground regarding prisoners getting earlier release because of them not being able to cope. There is a massive shortage of cops currently, and purse strings are preventing any hiring.

Don't be autistic spergs. There's nothing gained from being honest to liars, nothing to be saved from standing firm in the face of back-stabbing cowards and nothing to learn from those who use wikipedia, MSM and chatgpt for facts.

Smile, nod, put on an agreeable face and be the grey man. That's the power play.

My hope then would be that any member of the Woke today would receive similar treatment:

'You virtue signaled back in 2015? Service declined!'

Starmer doing that would be political suicide, because 'the special relationship' must always be seen to be working whatever the cost and regardless of who is in charge on either side.

Oh yes, because being a remora has been successful for us, but Starmer is not only stupid but dangerous. He makes decisions based on his worldview and not the country's. So many of his actions should have been voted for, but no because he knows he'd lose them and he would display his dismal ability to hold power.

But I tell you who I would bet money on being a nonce - stephen fry.
Well, there was rumours on Tattle life when Huw Edwards was outed, (they'd correctly pinned him weeks before, as well) that when Stephen Fry legged it on a ferry to Belgium, leaving Rik Mayall hanging in the middle of Cell Mates, the two hander play, it was to escape accusations of noncery, not because of a bipolar episode.
Apparently, some other west end actor had a audience member stand up in the middle of a play (can't remember who, sorry) with credible nonce accusations not long before, and Stephen was convinced it was about to happen to him, so he disappeared.

Rik never spoke to him again, and it lead it to a huge rift between Stephen and a lot of Rik's other friends too.
Apparently, separately from this event, his noncing is the reason he is never seen with the old group of friends he had - Hugh Laurie, Emma Thompson and the other Cambridge Footlights crew. Check the attitude on Hugh Laurie on the first episode of QI for confirmation, he must be doing it as a favour for someone, but he cold shoulders Fry all the way through, imo

Anyway, you'll just have to take my word for it, because I'm not going through years of tattle to find what amounts to gossip.

Peter Hitchens issued some very grave warnings about Starmer, how the deep and far reaching and devastatingly bad the changes he will impose on the country will be. Hitchens called the same about Blair from before he rose to power and was right. He said about Starmer that he is even worse.

People are acting like opposite day redditors in here trying to pretend they are the most anti-woke free thinkers at work. I go to work to get money then I leave and spread racism elsewhere.

I can work with lefties and not feel the need to froth at the mouth if they say something I don't agree with. Similarly I don't join in the racist old man club either, I'm just here to get paid and go home.

In fairness, a lot of the problems caused by the special relationship, are mainly down to the fact that we rely on the USA too much. The Americans didn't make us do that, we did that all on our own.

As it declines under neoliberal rule, Britain has its share of problems these days, but at least excessive heat isn’t one of them — unless you believe the BBC:

Shrieks the Beeb:
The hottest day of the year so far has been recorded in the UK…

A temperature of 33.2C was recorded on Saturday afternoon in Charlwood, near Gatwick, beating the previous 2025 record set earlier this week.
33.2°C is less than 92°F. In the Global South, they would call that a pleasant day in autumn.

But at least their anchor seems to understand that only women get pregnant. Maybe there is hope for the BBC yet.

I just had a quick skip through and you're right, it does look forced. He never returned either so it must have been towards the very end of their friendship. I know they hadn't worked professionally together for a while before that episode.

They found places for the rioters by releasing rapists and murderers. That amount of evil should not be under estimated.

Rik never spoke to him again, and it lead it to a huge rift between Stephen and a lot of Rik's other friends too.
Rik was a complex man after his brain injury. He ended up losing his friendship with Ade because he couldn't wrap his head around Bottom being over. He would insist on doing another tour with Ade and Ade has moved on and knew Rik wasn't up for it. Dave did a Bottom documentary last year and you can see how painful it was to Ade.

Trying to make it legal to murder babies and old people is just the beginning.
