As others have said, the original apartment listing said "no pets preferred". Chantal rented the apartment on the basis that she had no pets with her at the time. The new listing states "no pets"; it seems the landlord is once bitten, twice shy (wisely so.)

That listing I posted is for a different apartment in the same building. As of today, there are now two units available in the future at 304 Sydney Street, hers and another 1br/1ba.
