Male here, working in healthcare. This ^^ is exactly why you don't ever want this kind of garbage, even if your shit gets blown off.

I mean, an indwelling foley catheter that can be changed still accumulates bacteria which eventually form a biofilm (basically the bacteria all gang up together to produce polysaccharides which form a matrix for them to attach to, breed on, transfer materials, protect them even from antibiotics, etc) and which cannot be washed off/degraded by standard care (washing and rinsing). We try but guess what? Just doesn't work. People talk about urine being sterile but 1) that isn't really completely true and 2) guess what, it's still by your asshole so you're going to get bacteria all over it anyway. And biofilms are HARD to remove. That's why catheters get changed over time for completely incontinent individuals. We just can't risk them going for too long. And that's bacteria being able to stick to a goddamn polymeric plastic. Do any of these freaks have any goddamned idea how much easier it is for bacteria to stick to flesh than plastic?? I highly doubt it.

Personally I don't like the word "detransition". It implies that you actually transitioned to another gender in the first place and are undoing it, when you never changed your gender at all, you were just playing pretend. I believe a healthier outlook on detransitioning is recognizing the facts and accepting your gender, and trying to live as best you can. Don't "transition back" if it's not medically necessary. Definitely don't get more surgeries (leave your poor body alone, it's keeping you alive), don't become a detransitioning spokesperson (I know, it seems like the bad thing that happened to you is useless if you can't do anything with it- that's because it is. You just have to live with the regret. It sucks). Stop fixating on identity and just live. You're a human being with a fragile and precious life, not an identity on a social media page.

I knew of someone who unfortunately had a soft tissue cancer on their penis and attaching a flesh abomination wasn’t a clinical option as far as I know, just extreme circumcision. Granted this was squamous cell carcinoma and I am not a penis cancer expert but I think it’s interesting that at least back when I knew this person they just wanted to peel it like a grape not harvest their arm. When did someone go “you know what, that dude with dick cancer hasn’t suffered enough, let’s suggest harvesting their arm for a fake dick”?

I guess my question is, in what world would this ever be life saving medicine? Like I know people throw “oh cancer patients and reconstructive surgery” around but from what I remember, basically the person I knew was told “do you like being alive or having a dick?” so who is getting these life saving phalloplasties post chemo?

And in my limited experience when they are ethical they will ABSOLUTELY tell you that surgery on your bits is the last fucking thing you want to do. The good ones aren't just trying to do surgeries to do surgeries. They will recommend medicine and fluid management and life changes and everything they can before they start cutting on you. Which is a fucking blessing.

Great post. I just wanted to add this one thing: one of the main reasons why abdominal/pelvic surgery is discouraged is the possibility of adhesions. Basically, every time you open up a person and stitch them back up, there is a non-zero risk that their organs (particularly the intestines and kidneys, as well as the female reproductive organs) will become fused to one another through a web of scar tissue. It's certainly possible that it won't create problems, but in the case that it does, it can result in blood flow problems and potential strangulation of the organ. If someone is opened up time and time again, the risk of adhesions increases exponentially with each surgery.
