The Tales of Series

I recently got Graces and I'll repeat the sentiment that most people have. I didn't expect to like the cast as much as I did. I thought Pascal was gonna be obnoxious, but she's becoming MY GORL, she loves fucking with people.

I still can't believe common sentiment was that the cast was the weakest of the series, they're fucking hilarious. Malik gets a ton of great moments in Lineage and Legacies too.

I predict a Xillia remaster announcement soon. Abyss for winter probably.
They announced about a day ago that the next remaster was going to be announced sometime this summer so maybe at the next Nintendo Direct. Really wish it happened during the Summer Games Fest because Jesus Christ this year's showing was just pathetic. Link

Legendia definitely needs a revamp. It, Xillia, and Abyss are the top three most requested Tales remasters/rereleases.

Please give us Xillia or Abyss, i would sacrifice this thread just to have it!

Started playing Phantasia, I like this Arche's smug energy. She also nukes every single encounter with Thunder Blade.

She is great. Magilou cosplays her in Berseria.

Anyway replaying the games as I go. Playing Zestria for the first time and uhhhhhhh

They were drunk when they wrote the story. I have to believe.
That Baba guy really really wanted to fuck that voice actress didn't he because Rose Sue is terribly written. The insanity when she's even worse than Arise and DotNW.
30 fps and they never patched it to 60 because?.....
I hate that you can't talk to every npc but there are plenty to talk to.
The battle system is pathetic. Can't have three seraph fighting gotta use Rose Sue.
Certain parts of the story are very clearly shoehorned in. Diezel's feels half assed
Yes I do believe Alisha got axed because of the horny Japanese man.
30 fps I'm going to vomit
Fuck the Medusa enemies good god. Not being able to cure petrified status is retarded and gay. Please tell me they planned on fixing it.
A ton of shit is unfinished. Alisha's weapons continue to appear in shops.
Towns suck because they're so empty.
Berseria is so much better.
The weapon and equipment system is one of the worst things I've ever seen. Same with those creatures you find.
The IDEAS are there. Somewhat. But it's just stupid.
No ship. Stupid.
This fucking 30 fps oh my god.......................
Malevolence, not being able to see seraphim, the whole human vs non human the world and concepts are awful.
The only good thing the game has going for it aside from the anime cutscenes is the writing for descriptions. Its very cheeky especially equipment descriptions and enemy descriptions.
Skits are always perfection.

Should I ask if the anime is better?

Also yeah she's best girl in this game she's so damn silly and carries 60% of the party interactions. I'm glad every single mage character I've seen so far in these games have been not only the best character, but also the silliest as well (except for Rebirth and Destiny).

I also finished Phantasia a while back and while the gameplay isn't anything to write home about on account of it being the first (or the third in the PSX port's case) and the story is pretty standard the party and the OST stand out a lot. Shoutouts to the SNES version for not only having an excellent OST (seriously listen to some of these tracks why did the series never carry this energy), but having VOICE ACTING on top of it too. It was probably some space age tech hearing these SNES sprites say the spells/artes they were casting. Also it took me a shockingly long time to notice just how much Tales of Symphonia calls back to Phantasia. Maybe I should replay Symphonia in NG+.

You don't have to suffer with 30fps gameplay if you're on PC. There's been a patch out for at least 8 years that fixes the FPS. Doesn't fix the other issues.

Makes sense since I am convinced Magilou was heavily influenced by Arche. On the topic of the newer games I have not touched Tales of Arise after playing it for a bit. It just feels wrong, it feels like it was made by people who were given the basic information and told to figure it out.

I stopped around getting past the gate and really have not felt like picking it up ever since. Does it get better are does it become even more generic and boring?

Arise is a giant flop of a game which was hugely disappointing because I love the Tales series.

What's his face, sad mercenary slave man is the most boring MC ever made, he reminds me of Clive from FF16 and the rest of the cast isn't any better.

This is tragic because the previous game (Bersaria) had an excellent cast.

You can keep playing if you want but I completed it out of curiosity to see if it would get any better or more interesting and I can confirm it does not.

Same. I have no idea what the fans enjoyed about Arise, it felt like I was a crazy person voicing my opinions to them. It feels incredibly barebones and generic to play, all the charm and decision-making of the other Tales titles is just completely absent from Arise.

The only good thing about Arise is that it sold like absolute dogshit so hopefully it taught them a lesson and their next game is better.

Tales of Arise is the best selling entry in the series. Unfortunately the fact that the game is technically the newest entry in the series; people will play this game instead of literally any other game in the series and will base their impressions on that fact. Shit's dire.

I really hope that the Remastered Project will get more people to play some of the older (and better) entries in the series because man I'm sick of having people hate this series because the most popular one is the blandest one with a terrible cast, the complete opposite of what the series is about.

All I'm going to say is that Zestria is, to this day, the only Tales game I haven't finished. It's only redeeming quality is that Tales of Berseria is a prequel to it and is a better game, and you should play that instead.

I Platinum'd Arise out of sheer spite and because I was like, 1 Trophy off and it would've annoyed me to not do it. Would not recommend - generic is the best way to describe that game, and I jokingly referred to the Final Boss to a friend as "Sephiroth from Wish", which still feels like it's not insulting enough. Never touched the Expansion, so no clue if it got better, I'm assuming no.

With how many rereleases Symphonia has, I really hope that sales figure is just Initial Release, otherwise that's just sad, Dawn of the New World was shit so that's no real surprise, but still. The fact the most bland game in this series is the best selling is grim...

Arise being the best selling one isn't that strange considering it was the first truly multi-platform release. It was also a global release, so English fans didn't have a couple extra months to see how bland it was while they waited for it to be localized.

As someone who owns several Tales games and have dumped no more than 30 mins into a few of them, unable to really click with them and overall feeling like they all look like copy-paste clones? Yeah Arise stands out. It's also dirt cheap on third-party key sites unlike the other entries.

The one with the angsty claw girl is the only one I've really tried putting hours into. Which is like, a good simple entrypoint? I always feel like the other entries look more fun once I'm finally trying to commit to one.
