Mikayla Raines, founder of the popular animal rescue organization Save A Fox and a well-known YouTuber, has died by suicide, her husband Ethan Raines confirmed in a heartbreaking video uploaded to the Save A Fox YouTube channel on June 23, 2025.

Mikayla, who was known for her tireless work rescuing and caring for foxes and other exotic animals, had been battling severe mental health conditions including depression, autism, and borderline personality disorder. According to Ethan, despite years of therapy and various medications, she continued to struggle with daily life and emotional regulation.
In his emotional 11-minute statement, Ethan revealed that Mikayla had been the target of a prolonged online harassment campaign. The abuse reportedly came not only from strangers but also from individuals within her personal life and others in the animal rescue community.

“They spread false rumors, and being the sensitive person she was, it deeply affected her,” Ethan said. “She tried for years to push through the pain, but this time it was too much.”

Mikayla is survived by Ethan, their daughter Freya, and the many animals she cared for at Save A Fox’s Minnesota and Florida locations. Ethan has vowed to continue her legacy and the mission of the rescue.

Fans and fellow animal lovers expressed shock and sorrow online, paying tribute to Mikayla’s impact on the rescue community.

Depressing to see one of the few bright spots in my youtube subs go down like this.
Either way RIP, and husband is delusional if he thinks some internet person bullied his wife to death. I guarantee there's a lot more to this than just some meanie on Reddit said something mean to his wife and she an hero'd herself. Imo she's probably had severe mental illness for years and has been neglecting it. This mean Reddit trolls killed my wife explanation seems more like a scapegoat to me, but anyways that's my two cents
Ethan (her husband) never mentioned Reddit or Tumblr at all. This is the internet putting words in his mouth. He explicitly said it was from other animal rescues, and from people Mikayla considered friends (or used to be friends). People need to stop giving these shithole sites credit for something they were only a small factor in.

From what I've been able to gather, she obsessively read the comments on her Youtube vidya, and even for a normal person that is a plunge into a mental abyss. Take someone who is autistic, clinically depressed, and borderline too, and then she reads the YT comments, it's a recipe for cataclysm. She apparently had slipped into a psychosis where she thought that "the world" hated her guts and was out to destroy her. She had a human family and her foxes too, but still anhero'd due to retards with nothing better to do than harass randos on Youtube.

One thing I learned from all this is that fur farms still exist in the USA, and animals are still raised in cages and killed for their fur. I honestly thought that that barbarism was long gone out of the rear view mirror. I can't remember the last time I saw a woman wearing a real fur coat. The few fur coats I've encountered were family heirlooms. I thought that "furriers", clothing stores dedicated to the sale of real fur clothing, no longer existed in the US.

You know what some cities spray all over pine trees in the winter to prevent people from hacking them down? Fox piss.
Somewhere there is a business where foxes are farmed for their piss, evidently. I wonder how they do it. You think they grade their piss like we do meat and eggs? What if they had a special diet that makes their piss smell way worse. Like they feed them tons of asparagus or something idk.

I agree the husband bears some responsibility to protect his foid from being driven mad by the internet. With that said, it can be difficult to discern bpd hysterics from actual suicidal tendencies so if she were prone to neurotic behaviors before I can’t blame him too much for not realizing she was at the end of her rope.
If she actually had BPD, of course.
I know from painful personal experience that BPD narcissists are absolutely impossible to reason with when it comes to suggesting self-improvement, as they interpret such things as personal attacks.
And an-heroing yourself over internet criticism, leaving behind a young child and a husband, absolutely tracks with the selfishness and narcissism of a BPD ‘sufferer’.
To get out from under BPD, the individual first must recognize that they have a problem, and if my experience is a guide, their immediate and natural reaction is to always blame everything and everyone but themselves.
I feel sorry for her husband and child, but people who want to beat BPD don’t kill themselves. That’s for the ‘poor-me’s’ who thrive on a victim mindset.

Sketch in what kind of way? An Idubbz way or a JF way?
Per the other thread: Driving around in a 400k car for no identifiable reason, thinking it's funny when he gets home to find a random new lemur running around their living room uncaged (which she purchased only hours before killing herself), being totes cool with his wife's gross fox-featured porno shoots while also claiming online criticism is the problem...

Probably just put a metal pan underneath the wire cages they keep fur foxes in. Which is depressing. I'd prefer asparagus foxes frolicking in happy flower fields :(

I found out when I saw an Instagram post from juniperfoxx lamenting Mikayla Raines' suicide. I'm gonna be blunt: I always found the notion of a tatted up, pole-dancing, occasionally bitchy chick running a fox rescue kinda cringe but hey: she was doing a lot more than anyone else for foxes, she was genuinely on the up and up with pointing out "hey, foxes are cute, but they're chaotic animals and this ain't a life you want unless your heart's really in the game," and she was more than transparent about the missteps she did make (i.e. unintentionally letting one of her grey foxes out of her sight, who then ran out into oncoming traffic some time in 2018-2019). I won't gravedance on such a woman, no matter how much I might disagree with her social media presence because any vitriol I could even muster was significantly outpaced by the tangible good she accomplished like 1,000-fold. Was it snark subreddits, two-faced fox rescues, or even stalkers who drove her over the edge? Who knows? I certainly won't cast aspersions, and my deepest sympathies go out to her grieving husband... whom I only just now found out exists. Last time I followed saveafox's Instagram page, she was single but that was like 6-7 years prior.

Hold up. Did she get harassed by reddit troons into killing herself for selling shit from shedded fox fur? What was the impetus for the hate?

The abuse reportedly came not only from strangers but also from individuals within her personal life and others in the animal rescue community. Mikayla Raines used live animals as props in OnlyFans shoots to bait zoophilic men, bought all her foxes from fur farms, and had irresponsible animal caring practices that led to multiple incidents thanks to her hoarding of them. Can't say I have that much sympathy.

It’s usually used to deter pests like rabbits from gardens, in granule or pellet form. You can buy the liquid at near 100% purity, though, from Home Depot, Murdoch’s, or other home improvement stores.
