Mikayla Raines, founder of the popular animal rescue organization Save A Fox and a well-known YouTuber, has died by suicide, her husband Ethan Raines confirmed in a heartbreaking video uploaded to the Save A Fox YouTube channel on June 23, 2025.

Mikayla, who was known for her tireless work rescuing and caring for foxes and other exotic animals, had been battling severe mental health conditions including depression, autism, and borderline personality disorder. According to Ethan, despite years of therapy and various medications, she continued to struggle with daily life and emotional regulation.
In his emotional 11-minute statement, Ethan revealed that Mikayla had been the target of a prolonged online harassment campaign. The abuse reportedly came not only from strangers but also from individuals within her personal life and others in the animal rescue community.

“They spread false rumors, and being the sensitive person she was, it deeply affected her,” Ethan said. “She tried for years to push through the pain, but this time it was too much.”

Mikayla is survived by Ethan, their daughter Freya, and the many animals she cared for at Save A Fox’s Minnesota and Florida locations. Ethan has vowed to continue her legacy and the mission of the rescue.

Fans and fellow animal lovers expressed shock and sorrow online, paying tribute to Mikayla’s impact on the rescue community.

I know Kiwifarms is supposed to be a gossip website but I'm so MATI.

This makes my blood boil. I already don't like Reddit, but this is going too far man. Why are we doing this? Like my day is bad enough
Let it be known, everyone involved in this from the “victim” all the way down to the “perps” are all awful people in their own way.

Tumblr, Reddit has always been like this. Shoot, they have an higher kill count than most think.

I'm in agreement with Ethan Klein about these "detractor/snark" subreddits. They openly seek to damage instead of document.
KiwiFarms has developed a general ethical code because of legal threads it perpetually faces. Anyone suing Reddit would be brutally buried by a small legal army, so their colluding moderators feel they have open season to commit crime. Hopefully acts like this, and H3H3's suit against faggot John Doe snark mods will force Reddit into buckbreaking these cowtipping losers.

That’s why I dont like a vast majority of Reddit. Yes I understand Reddit isn’t a monolith just like how KF is not a monolith. But Reddit not doing anything about it and borderline letting it happen is what’s frustrating. It is completely absurd as sites were shut down for less. It really makes you wonder how one of the founders of Reddit (the dead one) would feel today at what his site became today.

I doubt this was a result of mean Internet comments. There were 100% other issues in her personal life, with her family or in any other field of her life. Who knows what her Husband did behind the scene or how the stress of keeping up the life of a social phenomenon / youtuber impacted with her mental disabilities.

Her family should have done everything to cut her off from that line of work and focus on the rescue instead of engaging in unwinnable and hurtful internet shitflinging with personal investment. When in doubt, literally just shut your screen off. I'm not even beginning to mention how she took the easy way out and left behind a small child that will now grow up without a mother.

I remember binge watching her videos back in the covid lockdown, kind of a shock watching out of the blue her husband's video announcing her death after youtube stopped recommending her videos on my feed. The whole situation is very weird and kind of smells of something wrong, especially with her having a child , husband and so many animals to take care of that she supposedly loved , despite all of that, she decides to leave everyone behind because some reddit dipshits said things? Either the IRL people that were harrasing her were filling a lawsuit about those previous allegations with the potential of taking her to court, winning and losing everything or, theres something that we don't know.

I really don't get why she killed herself, I have no major experience with BPD people that also happen to be autistic but even with those issues with the things she had in her life I don't know why she would do it. The most logical conclusion I can think of is accidental overdose from her medication (if she took any). Do we know the cause of her death yet?
