Mikayla Raines, founder of the popular animal rescue organization Save A Fox and a well-known YouTuber, has died by suicide, her husband Ethan Raines confirmed in a heartbreaking video uploaded to the Save A Fox YouTube channel on June 23, 2025.

Mikayla, who was known for her tireless work rescuing and caring for foxes and other exotic animals, had been battling severe mental health conditions including depression, autism, and borderline personality disorder. According to Ethan, despite years of therapy and various medications, she continued to struggle with daily life and emotional regulation.
In his emotional 11-minute statement, Ethan revealed that Mikayla had been the target of a prolonged online harassment campaign. The abuse reportedly came not only from strangers but also from individuals within her personal life and others in the animal rescue community.

“They spread false rumors, and being the sensitive person she was, it deeply affected her,” Ethan said. “She tried for years to push through the pain, but this time it was too much.”

Mikayla is survived by Ethan, their daughter Freya, and the many animals she cared for at Save A Fox’s Minnesota and Florida locations. Ethan has vowed to continue her legacy and the mission of the rescue.

Fans and fellow animal lovers expressed shock and sorrow online, paying tribute to Mikayla’s impact on the rescue community.

So far, the impression I get was that she was in over her head with too many animals. In her house she had minks in ferret cages, cats, recently acquired a pack of black-backed jackals, some reptiles, and many foxes outside, all of which need veterinary care. I don't know how many more people she had for help other than her husband, who seemed to be the one managing all of the social media. The OnlyFans stuff looks like she really didn't want to be there; she needed the money, as she was trying to open another sanctuary for 500 foxes, which needs a six figure investment, employees, and management. So it's like she was trying to do everything she could to use her popularity to get as much money as possible.

It was too much for just her and her husband. She needed a vacation to relax and mull things over. She should have scaled back, keeping the foxes she was most attached to, and giving up the rest to another rescue while she thought about expanding much more gradually. She was only fucking 29, she had plenty of time.

The BPD and the Reddit bullshit may not have been directly involved, but they were likely mitigating factors.

Sucks she didn't some better friends to give her a better support system and make sure she was taking her meds so that the BPD wouldn't run unchecked.

I'm very sad about what happened to her, I think she was a good person who let things get out of control and needed better friends.

BPD is such an easy diagnosis to make due to our totally underfunded mental healthcare system, i was chatting with a consultant on break and basically he broke it down to being totally algorithmic (btw this moid is on stike coz they won't give him a 25% pay rise)

Even if the diagnosis is totally wrong most shrinks justify it because any diagnosis even a fake as fuck one provides them access to the services they need to get assistance, throw enough meds and eventually one will stick. sad moid still sad after 4 different SSRIs? could it be Dr retard is just totally clueless? or like maybeee he genuinely has a horribly depressing asss life? NOPE that moid has treatment resistant depression, the magical ass covering diagnosis for all your poor treatment.

The wait list to receive DBT (the literal gold standard evidence based treatment for BPD) is 8 months long, oh yeah and theirs only one facility in the entire state doing it, so we'll provide pamphlets and discharge them a with referral to some under funded CAT team that'll transfer care to some different mental health service untill they end up back in the ward again.

You will never see girlys with BPD in a small town, the lack of victims for them to sink their fangs into is like garlic to a vampire. Nothing has fueled the social contingent of BPD more then letting them have their phones in psyche wards for endless attention. Its such a total fake as hell lie BPD is a permenant diganosis.

I agree with you about nuance being lost in internet games of telephone, but in your examples the models aren't in physical contact with the animals. They really are just props in those photos. The animals aren't just "around" in the OF pics in this thread, and I think that's what gives the idea of them being zoophilia bait merit.

Redditors do have some blame in this, but I think the main reason she committed an hero was because of the harassment she faced irl.
 
It's actually insane that people still believe that someone can be "bullied" into suicide. Did we kill Terryberry then? People here made fun of her way more than that pooner alogged this lady. And Julie was crazier and had a worse life. But we didn't kill her, and her abusive boyfriend leaving didn't kill her either. She killed herself. That's why it's called killing yourself. Just because something is sad doesn't make it less true.

Knowing that used to be what made us different than reddit, that and punishing people who attention whored instead of rewarding them with ass pats.

Regardless of what you guys think about Mikayla whether you think she was unfairly targeted by redditors or whether you thinking she was a mental BPD whore who deserved it. Watching that video where her husband broke down giving the news was absolutely devastating. I genuinely felt devastated for her child. How will you explain to her that her mom took her own life because some faggot snark reddit made fun of her. How will she live her whole life without her mother?!?!

If there is one thing I have learned from dealing with adults as a kid, teen, and then an adult myself, is that most people grow old but they don't grow up.
On the inside many seemingly never left highschool. Or even kindergarten in some painfull cases.
Adults bully each other just as kids do, the tools just change. They use gossip, the job bureaucracy, media, or local politics to fuck you.
