UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Mate, are you trying to get yourself a hope not hate profile page? Come on. Don't keep doing this shit. You're the news poster and we don't want you going DFE.

Brit pop was pretty crap. Better than grudge at the time but crap. I still listen to bits of it today but I'm not going to try new stuff, 30 years out of date. Oasis got retarded.

Suing rapists sounds a great idea. You will never see any of the money though.
Fair play :)

I think Britpop was the last real 'event' in music as after 2000 we've had ever worse 'tunes' and the attitude has gone from 'we need to create something that people will remember' to 'well, if people don't get it, they are the morons.'

Between the 50s and 90s, we had some of the best musicians ever - Elvis, The Beatles, Queen... sadly, we'll likely never see anything like them again or it'll be eons into the future before anything as good comes along.

When 'I Glued My Balls To My Butthole Again' was one of the most listened to songs of 2024, and that's an AI generated bit of music, then quite frankly I'd rather listen to AI or do my own - people rave about 'The Script' who played in Cardiff last night and 'The 1975'... nah, not bad but not my thing.

At least Rod Stewart's still out and about, though he'll likely get a few boo's tomorrow as it looks as if he's about to back 'our Nige':

Yeah unless the rapist has a paid up mortgage they aren't getting £500k out of some uber driving jeet.
It still financially ruins them. Uber reports every earning to HMRC now as do all the other paki work platforms. Makes it much easier to garnish wages so they will be forced into working cash in hand under the table jobs, which leave you with no provable income if you ever want to finance a 2019 3 series.

Good win. I'm not getting my hopes up quite yet with reform, but still open to it being the next necessary step. If nige can't go far enough then either enough nationalists infiltrate to take it futher, OR if it fails, I think it will only push the people to pick an even harder right alternative.

I think the immigration issue is going to keep pushing more and more people into being willing to counteance the nationalistic right and so either way we should keep moving in the right direction

Fair dos, I definitely think there's an element of "you had to be there" in the 90s to be nostalgic for this stuff. It wasn't just the music, but the whole feeling of the UK at the time just seemed to positive and upbeat. Now everything is
shit.
I think the zeitgeist of the time was one of genuine optimism. A lot of it also for me brings back nostalgic memories of late teens / early twenties, when it felt like the world was at my feet.

Do teenagers ever experience that feeling nowadays ? Of feeling that they have a chance ? They're working hard, they deserve and will get a chance to succeed at life ( I don't mean the braindead ones that want to be "famous" or a "princess" ) but the realistic ones that want a good career, a family, a home, a group of friends and a social life.
These to me are reasoable expectations for anyone who works hard and the youth of today are cheated if they don't have the anticipation of this. Surely this has to be part of an unwritten social contract, otherwise what incentive do the young have ? This to me should be the ultimate barometer in whether or not the politicians have done their job. Are the prospects of the present younger generation better or worse than their own ?

The pop punk era after that was an event still. Bands like Green Day, Blink 182, The Offspring along with Tony Hawk games and Jackass on TV. Everything turned to RnB after that and hasn't recovered. Future music events won't be on the radio, they will be big youtube channels and funded by patreon. The systems changed so much since the left strangled culture but once it's gone there will be a big revival. 2000s edgy will be rolling around on the nostalgia wheel so Jackass and some form of punk music seem likely.

Have you got a Business Administration Level 2? No? Oh, then good luck with your job search :)
If you’re after that entry level job you can almost definitely qualify for free college training to get that level 2 certification. If not then you will be in a situation with parents on enough to support you. (Household income based)

You’re making me double post.

Jarvis was writing jerk off lyrics about spying on girls going through puberty when he was in his late 30’s. Biggest nonce in British music since saville.

And btw, blur putting on costumes to appeal to kids as “gorillas”? Sergeant Major creep vibes.

They try but as came out with the asylum seekers working for deliveroo people trade and share accounts, uber is no different they know it's happening as nobody can drive 24hrs a day but 2+ drivers doing shifts can. Going to come out soon loads of reporters finding stolen dead peoples ID used to open accounts for gig economy work or random never been in the country ID from Dubai or whatever other scam to get around it. And rather than car finance to own it they often rent the cars by the day, a whole industry around serving uber has formed that just accommodates all the shit going on.

The idea you can financially ruin someone who unless they are in jail or dead is just going to disappear and reappear then rinse and repeat with another name/ID is a joke.

I honestly don't understand why people struggle to find work at the entry level when young. You just have to follow the market, yeah everyone fancies working at Wetherspoons or a supermarket but these are jobs which run on minimum staffing levels. Meanwhile, if you want to drive a van or wipe shit off old people's arse, there's going to be 20 jobs going wherever you are. Both of these jobs are hard work so people are just too bone idle to actually do them.

I spent quite a few years in australia after getting stuck there during covid, only recently coming back. australia was full of young brits looking for work in the mines because they saw it as a get rich quick scheme. What skills did these enterprising Brits have ? Fuck all that's what just expected to walk into a skilled job. I think young British people are just too up themselves and self important despite having nothing to back these feelings up.

I don't know why, maybe the Gen X/Boomer parents in the thread can answer. I'm under 30 so still count as 'young' I guess, but by having a simple will to not be lazy, I seperate myself from most others my generation. There's a hell of a lot for the taking if you are Gen Z simply by virtue of half your generation having no aspiration in life.

The problem is that a lot of young people have entitlement issues (and some older ones too!) and will not do the van driving/turd wiping because 'OMG, just think what people will think of me - my status, my feels!'

They think that now is forever, without realising that time and society will always change - what was cool last year isn't cool now etc.

We've developed a soft society here - the 'Be Kinds' and the 'Be Nice' have a lot to answer for (the only thing they should be is quiet, permanently) as they've purposely made young people unemployable: Tarquin can't tell you about fiscal skills, but he does know that he has a glittery vagina and that Black Lives Mater.

In defence of some of the hard workers, HR will demand to see your Social Media and if you say no then you don't get the job because you could be posting 'mean and nasty things'.

Yes, there are opportunities out there, but I also get the point when some younger people who aren't whiny retards say 'the state cares f**k all for me, why should I contribute - why should I play the game?' There has to be a trade-off and work has to be seen as valued, with the worker him/herself also valued and rewarded well. Crony Capitalism is wrong, as is Crony Quasi-Socialism which the Uniparty are all too eager to ram down our throats.

Not sure why people are so dismisive of the women who took her rapist to court. I'm sure she's more aware of the limitations of getting all or even most of her money then anyone here but she still felt it was what she wanted to do.

I'd rather have 100,00 white women garnering the wages of paki rapists even if they don't get all the money they are owed. Might make them not see white women as a soft touch. I'd like to see as many pakis as possible have to have their names in the papers for it for all to see and their paki familes be reminded of the scum in their family.

And the guy hasn't disappeared yet after 3 years. I hope this woman becomes a role model.

A decade ago I might agree but now even driving a van the likes of evri and amazon have passed on the costs of the van to the driver. What sounds like a half decent job once you take into account van+fuel+insurance+stuff barely break even. It's why they make the news all the time about drivers pissing in bottles to save time.

Care work from what I can tell they don't give enough time to actually do the job and only pay people the time at the old person's house while 1/2 the time is spent unpaid traveling between jobs. Anyone with the skill to challenge it in a legal way also has the skill to become an actual nurse or spot what a raw deal it is from day 1 and quit.

The jobs situation is fucked because it's a multi-pronged issue. Not only do you have Nicolas (30 ans) on £70k per year getting taxed to shit so Pakis can get free housing, but Barry (30 ans) who straight up never managed to get going after the 08 recession. Working minimum wage job to get by in the hope of making it to management level so he could switch careers, only to keep getting pushed aside when promotions came about leading to moving to another industry and starting from the bottom to face the same brick wall.

One of the reasons why people aren't keen on delivery driving or care work is because they know that's it, that's their life. Not a temporary measure to put money on the table until their degree level job kicks in, the moment they apply for their degree level job the employer will take a look at "Carer" and think he's a retard who can't use a computer. Where do you go from carer? Nursing? Good luck getting a job in the NHS when we've imported half of Africa to do a worse job than you could do.

The coming collapse of the British State is gonna be fucking brutal. I just hope the kiwis stuck in Perfidious Albion stay safe.

If I had to make a guess, it will kick off because of a blackout. The UK government is going broke and refuses to cut welfare for non-citizens while increasing taxation, morale is at a all time low with the native population and the entire country looks to be stuck in a loop of lying to themselves about things being fine.

Somewhere a fuse is gonna blow, a diverse city will go dark and the competency crisis will mean it will take too long to repair. Anything more than 12 hours and it's over, the chaos and diversity will be too out of control to fix by just turning the lights on.

At which point the British state will try and enforce order, fail miserably because their police is a joke made up of midwits and H.R. drones. The diversity will see the weakness and attack, and the response will probably be something immensely retarded like trying to shot down the internet in the area to stop people sharing footage of a white british cop getting decapitated by a Paki gang while at the same time deploying armed cops (still incompetent and useless, but now able to shoot themselves and lose their guns) to control not the diversity but the white population.

Anyway, did you guys see how Kier is now trying to shill for a rally around the flag war spirit? Fucking absurd.

Conscription and 'WW2 spirit' needed to defend UK in grim warnings

You will struggle to get an NHS job if you are white, yet Spire, Circle, Nuffield and SpaMedica are more than happy to employ white staff and pay them well.

The NHS is Unionised and has to suck woke dick for funds.

The Private Companies can do whatever the hell they want, within reason.

When Welsh Health Boards are being instructed by Keir Starmer and Eluned Morgan to take more Nigerian staff (or face fines), their answer is 'we needed to pour more gasoline on the fire in order to make it burn out.'

Starmer said 'no private healthcare' in June 2024, but we have more private companies doing things which the NHS should be doing in 2025 than last year...

Total and utter bloody madness.

I won't say any more to avoid PL, but I can say that this isn't true if you have half a brain.
they know that's it, that's their life
Well frankly, not everyone can be an artisan, doctor or skilled engineer. If you don't want immigration then you need the youth to accept that there needs to be van drivers and shit wipers. Otherwise companies will import 10 000 pakis a day to cover the gap. Too many people in England feel they are too good for certain jobs and look down on those who do them, only to turn around and complain about immigration in the next sentence.

I hate this defeatist attitude in this country. 'Oh delivery driving is a ceiling', yeah well it will be mate if you never try. Do well, save up and make good decisions and you can be running your own franchises in 5 years time easily. This is like the class conversation on here the other day, Brits are obsessed with class and what social standing your job grants you. All it does is keep people down in their boxes so they never try to do anything else.

I have retrained twice in my life into a different career, and now I'm going in a third time. As soon as I feel like I hit a ceiling I just side step into something else. At least in America or Australia all sorts of people will do Uber for instance, whereas here if you tell anyone above working class you do Uber you get the middle class wanker stare.

Not a bad guess, but my thoughts will be that the Far Left will Jo Cox anybody in authority who doesn't agree with them.

Basically, if they have to kill every Labour MP (or other) then they'll do it in order to frighten and scare us into conformity.

IF that happens, that will be the Black Swan of Black Swan events - it'll be on par with 9/11.

Starmer wants war as a distract, but Trump IMO will tell him to BTFO - Trump wants peace before he wants war (I'm aware of Iran, but that appears to be over before it began - thankfully!) and I don't believe he'd back Starmer sending people in to fight a forever war; in fact, he'd then want a regime change and for Nigel to become PM.

School's out soon... and hopefully for Labour it will be forever.

Anyway, have we ever had people declare their allegiance in this thread, vis a vis Oasis or Blur? I'll go first.
As an American I never considered hating the British until I found out that half of you prefer Blur over Oasis.

Oasis isn't very good, but Blur is so unmusical and stupid—I mean compared to shit like the Spice Girls, not fucking King Crimson or something—they're implausible. To this day I doubt their existence.

If anyone who gets any enjoyment from any song of theirs (besides "There's No Other Way," which little retarded girls are allowed to like) were hurled into fire-filled quarry, it would cure all of your political problems.
