us-politics-general + women, should be the title of this thread, only women would compain about my gramar, men know what i meant and can mentally fill in the gaps, but a woman always has to open her fucking mouth and complain.

men, how do you feel about yourself not knowing if this place still has any men left?
This nigger thinks there’s girls on the internet

What is Captain Planet? Another meme?
It's '90s cartoon. I think it's Western, but the artstyle is anime-adjacent. In terms of production values, I have no idea if it holds up or not, but it was influential on environmentalists left and right who grew up during that era. The title character is a superhero that helps a multiracial band of children fight off evil industrialists. I recall what I've seen of it being very humane; there wasn't really a clearcut villain. Nobody dies at the end of the episode. It's about how we need to cooperate to save the planet or we're fucked (not in so many words).

Did you somehow miss the FUCKING TERRORISTS THAT GET OFF TO POLLUTING SHIT AND SPREADING PESTILENCE YOU SECTOID MOTHERFUCKER?

Is it weird to say I never understood why child labor is a thing? Like the aveegre child is weaker that the avenge adult man and you want them to run a factory that would require a good bit of strength? That doesn't make sense to me the only reason why you would hire children is if you could pay them less(which is the reason why they did that) its even stranger now that there are some people (you know exactly which ones I'm talking about) want to bring child labor back like why? Why repeat the same mistakes again just so you could make 0.5% more money.

Adding objective as a qualifier is just hiding the ball. Objective morality is the only type worthy of the word, because otherwise, like I said, you're just arguing over opinions. Which you have no right to do, because you're claiming your moral framework comes from the consensus. It would be like saying your yardstick is closer to a yard than the yardstick you used to cut it. You have no way to say that because you only have your yardstick (your opinion) the calibrating yardstick (societies consensus) and you reject the idea of an outside, objectively true yardstick (objective moral frameworks). It's a nonsensical position.

You're not as smart as you think you are.

Lmao. Can you motherfuckers entertain points of view without accepting them? I didn't say I acktually accept the definition of morality or whatever I laid out. But your example, a yardstick, is a completely arbitrary, socially determined unit of measure and matches what I said to the T. Anyway, didn't meant to wade into the middle of this because I legit don't care.

Children are more replaceable. You can grow another 5-year-old in five years, so if one gets maimed in an accident it's not really a big deal, just throw it into the incinerator and get another one.

You hire children to fit in the tight spaces between the machinery, where a grown man can't go.
Midgets also serve this purpose but have the buff of adult intelligence so less child abuse/death.

But the thing is child labor back in the day was less that and more just cheap sweatshop shit.

It's a great thing Theodore Roosevelt was president and got rid of this.

Child oyster shuckers from 1909; even if this was the tail end of the child labor stuff, this is horrific:

Yeah that's... why I used yards instead of meters in a hypothetical about the futility of arguing against society only using the tools society gives you. Glad you caught that.

Anyway, just put my two cents in because moral subjectivists throwing popcorn from their box seats in the view from nowhere always makes my skin crawl.

It used to be that children were extra hands around the farm, or another hand on the production line. That changed after the Gilded Age due to things like trade unions and labor reforms.

In most states child labor is still allowed in agriculture and fishing as long as they also go to school and don’t work over a certain amount of hours.

T. Started working at 9

Why in the world are you chuds arguing about whether rape is a social construct or not?
I think I started this by accident! I brought up New York's violent crime statistics in response to Pajeet Patheaterkid saying violence is an artificial construct, and rape was my example of how he was being callous and retarded to victims of violence. Especially since he wants to let criminals out of prisons.

I would apologize but this slapfight is very very very entertaining and I shouldn't apologize for good art and never will.

Also hi everyone! Happy Saturday afternoon!

I understand @Diana Moon Glampers ‘s point, it was carefully phrased but it didn’t work. If it’s something that exists amorally in the animal kingdom but which humans have identified as a moral evil for us, it makes sense to me to say it’s a human social construct. That doesn’t diminish it. I think this whole argument is based on a misunderstanding and an (understandable) knee-jerk reaction to a sensitive subject. Stop fighting, you’re all on the same side.

I know, I was talking about the times before compulsory schooling.
Yeah, I’m not for child labor but think there is a convo to be had about forcing 14-19 year olds who don’t want to be in high school and want to work to stay in high school and if that’s working for society because I don’t think it does. We need to stop framing a 4 year degree as a must have.

I don’t know ultimately tho I come from a place where kids want to work because it’s advantageous not because they have to, and I see the argument for why that’s different.

show me she's always on my side by annoying me when I just want to watch the game and get drunk???
Not the person you were replying to but this sentence interested me. How is someone annoying you showing you they are on your side? Maybe you aren't actually annoyed and enjoy her company and are simply being sarcastic?
