I do wonder if Chance truly believes that he was shot at. He's very manipulative and we've seen how often he lies. He would have known that it was a rat trap that went off considering he would have one right next to his bed. I just don't believe that he wouldn't try to find the fired round if he really believed it. What seems more likely is that he tried to use the opportunity to his own benefit like we have seen so many times before. Maybe it's that he doesn't look for it in order to protect his delusions. I was also under the impression that he stopped sleeping in his bed because of the bed bugs.
