UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

brits widely mocked by others because muslims rape british women and children and the men do nothing

KF has poster join a week ago, immediately starts insulting just female posters and then implies popular site grandma is a lying slut

Didn't know all drug addicts were female. Time to join the women hate thread?

ITV news are reporting on Bob Vylan. The government is very upset he insulted the IDF and are going to look into it as a hate crime. Not a single mention of "You want your country back? Fuck you". Two tier policing in action.

What just cause he's not being piled on immediately it's the heman zone all of sudden? It's called giving 'em rope, makes it funnier.
I think you're taking Bazza a bit too seriously, the only chum he counts as is the dancing monkey you see.
You ought to insult him back, maybe question the quality of manhood/bring into doubt the parentage of his offspring/seek to validate his BMI or something at a similar level, it'll make for a good dance.
Otterly isn't a day over 30 you dick!
Stop besmirching are kween's agelessness.

So please why is this guy complaining ? Did he just expect to get to have his cake and eat it ? That is the risk of making an investment where you accept a return for committing to it. The fact that the government effectively gives the investor 20% on the first year ( and they also get any return on the actual investment too ) makes this a very good choice, which is probably why the fairly modest cap of £4k and the exit penalties.
I feel like there's been a very inorganic push to remove the penalty, I found it very strange Martin Lewis has been super outspoken about the penalty and wonder if it's got anything to do with him recommending that everyone get a LISA years back and there's a bunch of retards who might have a case against him for not explaining the terms of the LISA.

Personally the LISA is great, the only people who seem to complain are people who want their first house to be in London. The 450k limit can buy you a house in 95% of the country relatively easily but people can't seem to grasp that it's for a FIRST HOUSE. Not a forever home, but the FIRST HOUSE. There's nothing stopping you from selling up in 10 years time to buy a house that's over 450k, and throwing the whole scheme in the bin because retards can't grasp that they can't afford to live in London is lunacy. Putting the max in every year would take 9 years to get the 45k required for a 10% deposit, so either they take it out and buy a big house in London, settle for a flat in London or buy a four bedroom detatched house elsewhere in the country.

The only criticism I have with the LISA is that it counts as general savings in terms of benefits, so if you lose your job and have 18k stuck in a LISA and only that then you're unable to get jobseekers allowance so obviously have to take the penalty to put food on the table. Ideally it should be ringfenced like a pension is, as it is deliberately designed to be withdrawn either as a stopgap towards pensions or for a first house.

It...is fucking hot. Which has made the foreign ghetto in outside London that I just drove through, reek to high heaven of rotting bins. Awful, vermin can't even keep their nests clean.
I am in the north west so hot but not tarmac island London hot. Didn't consider the bins, what must Birmingham smell like?!? The answer is of course shit, but because of all the pakis rather than the rotting bin bags.

Went to Wales. Saw some castles, some more flowers, and lots more "ARAF." Very few non-whites except for a specific place where there were a LOT of either Indians or Muslims (I couldn't tell), which I found distasteful. Unsurprisingly, they were disobeying the "do not feed the ducks bread" rule clearly signposted.

Wales is weird. They're all proud about their "national identity" which is basically just "I am Welsh" (even English people with a Welsh parent lmao), and go on about how they're "still here." Not sure what they mean by that because they pay their taxes to England and obey English laws, so what is Wales? They survive because the English let them. They were conquered easily, couldn't prevent the castles being built, and then failed to siege the castles to win back their country. I believe at one point one of the castles there was successfully defended by a handful of English lads - what an embarrassment.

Pretty scenery up North though.

I wish my country had conquered more shit. It's amusing seeing the aftermath a couple hundred years down the line like that.
Most of the 'I'm Welsh and proud of it, butt' idiots are larpers who know very little about Wales.

From Macsen Maximus to Owain Glyndwr, the Mabinogon and Llwewllyn The Great, their 10 minute knowledge comes from listening to Dafydd Iwan's 'Yma O Hyd' and wearing a bucket hat.

I am proud to be Welsh
I don't hate England or the English
I am Welsh, British and then Kekistani (Shadilay and HONK!)

After Owen Hurcum, I laugh at Undod (Welsh Antifa) and think they're as Welsh as the Loch Ness Monster.

You are right, Wales is a strange country - we are proud to fight for the language, but can't or won't even keep our streets and rivers tidy.

We want to be the best in Rugby Union, so we axe the clubs, have four regions which are all days away from being more broke than Bonnie Blue's hymen, and then bitch and whine when we're only sending two players Down Under on the Lions Tour.

We're also open, tolerant and diverse - yet speak out against Welsh Labour and you'll be castigated.

The people remind me of the same types who'll go on holiday to Tenerife or Lanzarote - they'll want a Hotel with a Pool, a pub which sells British beer and a Chip Shop. They won't go outside of the resort, they aren't interested in other cultures and will engage in small talk or chit chat with others like them only. If you're different, you are not welcome in the 'click'.

Most of us realise that the Wales v England fights are theatre - both nations need each other and the anti-union flag bollocks is just cringe. Put a golden Welsh dragon in the centre of the flag to solve the problem of representation.

Green MP will campaign to stop concerts by someone the police have said there's not enough evidence to investigate but will not talk about Irish cunts screaming "Kill Tory MPs"
The first UK concert of rock star Marilyn Manson's tour has been cancelled after pressure from campaigners and an MP.
The first leg of his One Assassination Under God Tour had been set to kick off at Brighton Centre on 29 October.
On Saturday, fans who went online to contact Ticketmaster received a message saying "this event has been cancelled".
In January, prosecutors in the US said they would not file charges against Manson, whose legal name is Brian Warner, after a long-running investigation into allegations of sexual assault and domestic violence. The singer has repeatedly denied the accusations.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said the allegations were too old under the law and the evidence not sufficient to charge the 56-year-old.
LA County sheriff's detectives had said early in 2021 that they were investigating Manson over alleged incidents between 2009 and 2011 in West Hollywood.
Earlier this month in an open letter to the Brighton and Hove City Council, Sian Berry, the Green MP for Brighton Pavilion, called for the October concert to be cancelled.
In the letter, which was co-signed by some victim support groups and the University of Sussex students' union, she wrote: "Many survivors in Brighton and Hove, and organisations supporting them, will have serious concerns about this booking and its wider impact on other people visiting the city centre, local residents and the wider community."

The letter, which was posted online, prompted a flood of responses from the public pointing out that Manson had not been found guilty of allegations against him and that a four-year investigation did not lead to charges.
Others branded the call to cancel the gig as censorship.
The message on Saturday from Ticketmaster read: "Ticket sales have stopped but there may be tickets available for other dates."
Five other UK gigs in October and November are still listed on ticketing websites.

Airport brothers make it to trial
judge told potential jurors in the trial of two brothers on trial over an alleged altercation with police at Manchester Airport that they 'must not allow yourselves to be influenced by anything you may have read or heard on the mainstream media or social media'.

Mohammed Fahir Amaaz, 20, and Muhammad Amaad, 26, both of Tarnside Close in Rochdale, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court today.

They have been charged with assault following video footage of an alleged incident involving police officers and members of the public in July last year.

A panel of 40 jurors was reduced to 28 after the panel was asked to complete a questionnaire.

As jury selection began, Judge Neil Flewitt KC told the panel of 24 potential jurors: "You will have realised from the questionnaire this trial involves events at Manchester Airport on July 23 last year which attracted a large amount of mainstream and social media interest."
He added that as the trial progresses there was likely to be further media comment.

He went on: "You must reach your verdicts in this trial based on the evidence presented in court and you must not allow yourselves to be influenced by anything you may have read or heard on the mainstream media or social media."
Judge Flewitt urged the panel not to look up any information about the case on the internet until they returned on Wednesday morning to resume jury selection.
Mr Amaaz is charged with assaulting a member of the public Abdulkareem Hamzah Abbas Ismaeil by beating him on July 23, 2024, at Manchester Airport.

He also faces a second charge that he assaulted PC Zachary Marsden causing actual bodily harm on the same date, also at Manchester Airport.
A third charge alleges he assaulted PC Lydia Ward causing actual bodily harm on the same date at the airport.
A fourth charge against him alleges he assaulted, by beating, an emergency worker, PC Ellie Cook.

His co defendant Muhammad Amaad, his brother, faces a single charge, namely that he assaulted PC Zachary Marsden at Manchester Airport on July 23.
The trial is scheduled to last three weeks.

Welsh people Americans will have heard of;
Tom Jones
Catherine Zeta-Jones
Vinny Jones

Welsh diversity in action :)

That's not a meme - the war memorials were a good 50% Jones, with some Griffith mixed in for flavor.
I'm well aware, in another life I had to do some IT infrastructure work for employers who had some big Welsh sites.

Well over 70% of those employed had one of two surnames (and to pre-empt the usual questions yes, the other one was also a Welsh name).

You know, well-insulated houses also keep heat out, but you need something to move the heat out there in the first place. If you just had air conditioning, everything would be fine. Get a reversible heat pump, and you can use them for heating in the winter too, stop bitching about how you can't buy gas of Russia any more maybe.

Who needs air conditioning when you can just run a hose for a few minutes in the backyard.
