It would be an incredibly stupid business decision and ruin Sam's credibility probably forever, but it would be legendarily hilarious if they just bring the show back tomorrow with no announcement and act like nothing ever happened.

S2 fans do a revisionist history thing where they forget the show was probably meant to revolve around Cole, more or less, and after he sperged out they had to retcon it to the walking soulless husk that is

The way I read this is more Sodaman got fired tbh. He locked his account like a week or more ago and removed "head of personnel at Bloodgames" from his bio at the same time, which was long before the shutdown and there's no way Sam had made the decision to nuke everything that early. Sam's role is necessary because he's the only person on the show that everyone respects and/or fears. He's as close to a boss as they've got, and I have a hard time imagining a replacement host being able to pull the authority over the cast AND crew that Sam has.
Wasn't he literally ON the show a week ago? He was bringing up stuff at least as recent as The Cell.
I believe he meant the buyback was a joke in that they wouldn't charge them the 8k just to come back, not that they wouldn't be asked to come back at all.
