I contest that hope makes it easier to find motivation than attempting to show what one feels is stoic integrity in a world you feel is stacked against you where failure is near-certain. I understand you might consider it a more noble moral aspiration, but this is a pragmatic matter of getting people to care just enough to do what matters, and a lack of hope is just about the easiest way to turn a potential loss into a definite one when the target is "do we give enough of a fuck".

Oh, absolutely. It makes you emotionally vulnerable, which allows you to be hurt, and so in response to that hurt, people stop showing that vulnerability so they aren't allowed to be hurt again. It's survival instinct, a perfectly logical way to live your life (though we can discuss the complicated bits of it for another time).

I guess to granularize my own stance a little, I'm not necessarily saying "you should be hopeful about everything all the time", just that this is an issue that's deeply interwoven with how much people hope, and it's far more of an achievable target than most - some causes are absolutely lost, but with the way this is going I don't consider this to be a foolhardy thing to hope about and I consider how much people are willing to hope to be very relevant to its success, as that'll make or break both whether they tell others about it, and whether those others sign.

That said, if I've pigeonholed your own stance or oversimplified it, I apologize.

Making an offline version of the game is the easiest way, but I can't imagine gachas are even fun when you remove the games of chance and the updates dry up. I play a single gacha game and what keeps me coming back is the story updates that I would gladly pay full price for if it was a "real" game.

It really depends on how long the game was alive and if it was a standalone project or based on an IP . If it was an IP based gacha game (most of which die within 6-9 months) there really isn't much to archive gameplay wise and in most cases the story is either generic multiverse slop or the story from the original material but in gacha game format (most One Punch Man gacha games were like this). On the other hand gacha games that survive for multiple years before the inevitable EOS and what happens to them after depends on what type of games they are.

Generally speaking there are 2 types of gacha games: Open world exploration with overworld story and quests (Like Genshin impact) and games that are 90% menus 10% gameplay stages and the story is in Visual novel format (like FGO). There are outliers of course but that's how it is for the most part and obviously the second type is much easier to implement a singleplayer/offline version to. As for what happens to the gacha mechanics and how/if you can obtain new characters/units in that version will depend on the company that owns the game. Most will probably only leave the Visual novel story portions and cut everything else.

I read somewhere that they plan to continue the story as a Web Novel in their website. Don't know how true this is though.

What are you talking about? I posted a screenshot of the data history page showing an upward trend, which if you mouse over the latest data point at the time was only for 6/29. The data history page doesn't update in real time like the count does on the main page.

And as of right now it still only shows 6/29 for the data history, which I expect will change shortly once the day kicks over and the page updates to show 6/30.
