Yeah I remember it being used to embed mp3s in images for gondola threads and even earlier to share embedded ebooks, god that must have been like 2008. I feel like the "governemnt psyop" is just a convenient mental excuse for people to avoid acknowledging it's a self-proliferating problem that isn't caused by some central boogeyman, but rather a natural spread, since once you acknowledge that it becomes more terrifying when you don't have some central faucet you could close and have the problem gone. I do believe that it is the latter. Goonerism simply proliferates like that on it's own. Porn addicts fuel other porn addicts with no need from third parties to interfere.

And even if we acknowledge that yes, readily available online porn is the main way this issue spreads, any attempt to curb it would only lead to giving the government control of Internet speech. Any tool with which you could restrict or ban Internet porn would inevitably be abused to restrict and ban free speech, with any attempt of pushing against those leading back to having to abolish those porn control tools, which obviously no one would want and anyone who would be against that to protect free speech would be deemed as a groomer.

So no, it's young men turning other young men into mindless gooners. You're not fighting a psyop, you're fighting an idea, which can be only fought back with better ideas. The general populace wants a magical fix for it, but there really isn't one. It's also going to be an issue when this problem reaches mainstream awareness. The general populace will want a solution now, and that's when the aforementioned tools that can be weaponized will get a lot of traction, with the only way to stop them from being introduced will be proposing better ideas. Unless people start thinking of them now then there will be no good exit out of this conundrum.

How do you stop millions of aimless, purposeless young men from falling into the trap of online pornography? How do you give them that drive and purpose that'll avoid turning them into monsters? Once you start looking at it from this perspective then it's understandable that you want to believe it's a government psyop. It makes it sound way simpler and more solvable than it actually is.

Though it's not a porn debate thread, I just wanted to remind that falling back on comfortable mental excuses in face of gigantic problems is a bad habit to have that's worth catching yourself on.

/g/'s /sdg/ OP points to all the other ones on the site. It is Hiro's 4chan that we're talking about after all. They all range between saars wanting bob vegana and nerds toying around with Stable Diffusion trying to find the perfect mix. In some cases these communities become a gathering of nerds where the thrill is figuring out how everything works, from the models themselves to the parameters, rather than the final smut output which is just a bonus.

The end result is always porn, but what drives people to it can differ from blank goonerism and proper autism nerdiness that may or may not be ultimately beneficial in the wake of generative AI taking over everything.
