UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

* Permanent ceasefire in Gaza
* No armaments places in the UK help Israel
* The 'environmental crisis' is addressed and Miliband reverses his oil-drilling plans
* The 1.5 degree Celsius rise in global temperatures is stopped
* Trans rights to be mandated in law and the current (Starmer) agreed law is axed
The demands are so diverse and contentious that it genuinely looks like a troll job from a right wing source. They're trying to get pro Islamist and pro Trannies to join hands and attack Starmer.

But you just know it was set up by some guy named Clyde (17 ans) who genuinely agrees with this shit.

Yeah no shit. Look, if you don't have any practical advice like "tape a bunch of soleros to your midriff" then you can keep your comments to yourself
Get one of hose transparent plastic boxes for clothes/towels from your Tesco and fill it to ankle height with water. Doesn't have to be cold water. Sit with your feet in it. Even if the water reaches ambient, it still sinks heat away from your body really quickly, and your body puts a reasonable amount of blood through your ankles.

Only works for jobs where this is acceptable behavior, or that you don't care to keep.

It reminds me a lot of 2016 and the whole 'Clown World Pepe Honkler' thing, with both sides creating feedback loops with the other side.

Remember how the Right trolled the Left into thinking that the OK hand gesture was a dog whistle for racism? Well, maybe this is part two, trying to get as many mental midgets as possible to attack their side by telling them 'well, actually, Starmer isn't doing what you want him to do - therefore you need to treat him like you were treating Sunak and the Tories.'

Add in a bit of coercion by the 'Moral Purists' and the usual Left wing suspects on X, et viola the Left are once again attacking things because they're told to do so - and they're associating Trans Rights with Environmental Rights and Palestine Rights because somehow the right of Palestine to exist is exactly the same as a Man to identify as a Woman if he wishes to.

Remember that the group will demand conformity and that if attacking Starmer (in whichever way) is deemed acceptable then they have to (as Rush would sing in 'Subdivisions'...)

'Conform or be cast out'.

All it will end up achieving, eventually, is what Farage wants - a mass loathing of the idiot Left and the hugest upswing Reform UK have had to date at a time when Starmer is at his weakest and Labour are at their most vilified.

The British will do anything to keep themselves cool, except for using central air. There's legitimately zero downsides of having HVAC in Britain, as everyone stays cool and it's an industry that makes money hand over fist. It's always in need and it will help with the unemployment problem. Then again, the Brits will bitch and moan over this while the elderly drop dead from heat stroke and heat exhaustion.

Americans can't resist coming into the thread and making an arse of themselves can they?

Normal leftism. They're a big tent and each want their own demands. It's like children saying what they want for tea.

Morrisons sausage rolls are better than Greggs. Greggs aren't even properly brown on top and the pastry isn't flaky enough.

They can't help themselves. Like, sorry most of our houses are built out of proper shit like bricks and not clapboard boxes. Also sorry we're an old country and we literally have bank branches built, and still in operation, before their country even existed (I'm referring to the Royal Bank of Scotland branch at St Andrews Square in Edinburgh as a specific example).

I think that the violent attacks will be Left on Left before it's Left against Right.

The ones to watch are Palestine Action - they've caused trouble (again) in Bristol and despite being days away from being proscribed are openly stating that they are going to carry on and they will 'get worse' unless their demands are met:

* Permanent ceasefire in Gaza
* No armaments places in the UK help Israel

Some are saying 'they're state actors'... well the actor/s aren't sticking to their lines.

If there are 'chimp outs' and Left on Left/Right violence, that will only add to Reform UK's popularity - as all Nigel has to say is 'we will end this nonsense, we'll jail these morons and we'll get back to the common sense society of old.'

It's ironic that I've just finished listening to this song with a rather apt name:

Are these people unironically demanding the British government stop global warming completely despite making up a fraction of a percent of all carbon emissions? It's like they read the folktale of King Canute ordering the tides to stop and actually took the shit to heart.

The houses are not easy to retrofit. Most have no space outside to put the external unit - terraces etc wouldn’t be possible. Window units are out because most windows hinge not sash these days (and you’ll get burgled.)
It’s only possible for new builds and even then, they don’t do it. It’s like the heat pump nonsense they push - very free w houses are built to make it work and there’s nowhere to put the units. And we don’t need it 90% of the year

Pretty much.

The current and former Governments were too scared of these pinko's to tell them to 'STFU' and as 2030/Paris Accord is legally binding then they can always threaten to take their mass 'weepathon' to the UN.

'If they don't do anything, then there's no more future for us at all!'

I'd sooner that option then listen to the mentally incompetent/incontinent.

I've discovered this one weird trick (HVAC companies hate him!), which is: just move to the north west of England, where it is currently raining and lovely and cool, even during "peak heat wave".

Anyway, on the topic of the news - not looking good for Starmer is it? Don't get me wrong, I'm still team "GE ain't happening", but he can't go on much longer like this can he? Genuinely feels like he's limping towards the summer recess (as if a summer of bovver is going to revitalise his premiership)

If the limit is reduced to only 5k a year like what is being discussed for ISA's and your getting taxed on it then honestly what would even be the point of having one? I don't even think their stupid at this point, I think the goal of the government is to never allow you to own a home (young people using ISA's as a way to buy a first home is a very large amount of people setting up ISA's).

This being one big scheme to try get people to invest into UK stocks is retarded. Not only is it too difficult and too much effort for most people. But why would anyone invest in UK stocks right now? Most companies have left at this point so you would end up investing in American stocks which defeats the purpose of this whole thing.
The reason is that Reeves has been lobbied by dodgy investment platforms (the like that people on Reddit used)

Not sure what the difference between lobbying and corruption is

The forerunner to this in Wales was that Cooke & Arkwright (Dodgy & Corrupt) were going to effectively become the national 'Landlords' of the country with the Senedd owning the controlling stake in the company.

All property would be state-owned and managed with the then First Minister, Mark 'Drippy' Drakeford, being given the right to own the house that people had already paid for.

Thankfully, Eluned 'Loony' Morgan seems to have shelved this for now.
