This is correct. There are a few different words in Japanese that translate to pedophile. Aside from ロリコン/lolicon, the most common one seems to be 小児性愛者/shouniseiaisha, which is likely a calque of the word pedophile. You can also say ペドファイル/pedofairu. Out of these three, I think 小児性愛者 is the most clinical-sounding term whereas ロリコン is the most casual word out of the three.

Case in point, there's a popular Japanese novel/movie called 流浪の月 (Rurou no tsuki, The wandering moon) which is about an orphaned girl who lives with her aunt's family and is sexually abused by her cousin. She ends up running away from home and is taken in by a male university student, who she often sees at the local park and who is rumored to be a pedophile. He takes care of her for months until he is arrested by the police. He's accused of being a lolicon/pedophile who kidnapped and sexually abused the protagonist and she's labelled a poor victim, even though he never showed any sexual interest in her.

At the end of the story, it's revealed that he took her in because he was feeling lonely due to him suffering from Klinefelter syndrom, and that he's not a pedophile.

And yes, the story is as dumb and unrealistic as it sounds. The relationship of the two protagonists is completely inappropriate. For some reason, lots of Japanese people love it, because it's about how it's easy to think that you know the facts of an event that took place, but only those who were involved know the truth of what actually happened, or some bullshit like that.

Anyhow, in the story, the guy is often referred to as a lolicon, initially by the local kids who play in the park and later by other characters. This is in reference to him being a pedophile, not specifically a fan of loli manga.
