The reason Zoomers cashiers don't even bother to greet customers isn't because they're meditating on home prices, interest rates, the demographic pipeline, or any of that other autistic shit. It's a long, long trend going back decades of rejecting social norms and conventions because they're "inauthentic." It started small, with Boomers rejecting neckties and suits. Well, then Gen X followed that up by ditching bizcaz and replacing it with hoodies and jeans at work. As things degenerated, we saw the death of polite pleasantries. "Have you ever thought about how when people ask, 'How are you?' they don't actually care how you're doing? Hypocrites!!" Zoomers are just following that trend of dismissing social convention and politeness as inauthentic bullshit that feeds hypocrisy. Why should they smile at a customer? They're not actually happy to see them. Boomer narcissism has now fully metastasized, even customer service sucks now.
