Even if he did hate live service games, I'd hardly call that irrational. In most cases, there's little to no benefit to making a game live service for the player - Only to the dev. What few benefits the format holds have been far outweighed by the scummy behavior it creates. But I have to remind myself, most people in Mald's discord and in the gaming scene as a whole are young. They barely remember a time before every game had a battle pass and a 2 year roadmap of menial updates to tempt you to come back and spend more money. Nor do they understand how narrow their understanding is. As they say, you don't know what you don't know.
i think theyre just morons, whenever i see a kid hear that you used to just buy the game, own it, cosmetics were unpaid unlockables and fun secrets, and that dlc was essentially an extra mini game ala ultima they say that sounds a lot better than today. i think his audience might just actually be completely mentally disabled invalid waterheads whod be put down by the government in a sane society .all this is lashing out that lax govs allow them to exist in this cruel mockery of a life
What few benefits the format holds
i cant think of any. its like saying we need feudalism and tithes because it benefits the worker .... you know some how by being someones property. its just a blatant lie, its companies kicking us in the balls and calling it an indian healing dance and were racist if we groan. its brazen bs. their mothers oughta be slapped for not slapping them for telling lies is what it fuckin is.

Jason: Uhm ackchually an API is just an interface
Okay I don't want to dev sperg too hard because I'm no genius but this smells so bad I had to pop it open

"APIs? You might be talking about a distributed architecture and here's a retarded reason why that can't happen"

No, he's talking about the "communication bridge" with the server and client you technobabble-slinging poser retard. You define the API so that even if it isn't feasible to distribute your server code users can re-create fan servers at EoL without having to go through the rigamarole of reverse-engineering everything.
It's not that hard to understand when you're not trying to bluff your way into being the smartest guy in the room. Also, dear god do those smug, exasperated ellipses in his Discord message get my blood boiling.

He's being intentionally obtuse and missing the point the developer is making. That "if you plan ahead for the game to be shut off this isn't an issue." He's dancing around the obvious point because he knows he can't actually disagree with it if he was honest.

They keep saying Ross hates live service games. Has he ever said that?
I swear people are just misconstruing what he says deliberately.

My understanding is that all he's really advocating for is a way to keep games running if a publisher decides to shut down the servers or whatever. Basically provide the backend or a way to play the game locally for those who want to devote the resources to it.

It is really baffling anyone would take issue with this, especially since I refuse to watch any more of Maldy than I have to (ie not at all.)

It's easier to beat up an opponent made out of straw.

Does anybody remember digital homocide studios? They were incredibly toxic, anti-consumet and hostile, and they got their shit delisted off of steam? I know Frederick Knudsen is a faggot but this video is pretty informative about that situation.
Incomparable situation. Digital Homocide was literally just two retarded brothers who fell on their sword trying to sue Jim Sterling of all people.

(I know it's Jim Sterling but this is his best video of all time and it's not even close.)

I am very confused by this exchange. Does Jason think that an API exposes core game logic? Does he think API = distributed authority? Does he think jack wants to make critical game internals client accessible? Nobody suggested to expose server logic to clients that's the entire point of a "communication bridge". (Which is a massive simplification btw)

Fuck it, there is no need to procrastinate. I'll let you guys know if they get back to me.
There is also this address you forgot about which he is currently residing at. As far as I know this is where he moved to some time mid last year and has been living there ever since running his ferret rescue out of there. The Lawrence St address is unironically where some of his jannies live and they pay rent to him.

Whatever site that is, we now know Mald himself posts there.

It's not irrational to hate live service games.
As someone with a functioning brain, I would hazard a guess that Ross is not a fan of them. These retards love to just make shit up though.

It's impressive. The more Mald continues, the more unlikeable he makes himself to be.
He's speed-running his brands death, it's insane behaviour. Either he reinvents his image after the flames die down, or he just finds a new job. Bros cooked.

Maybe he can pivot to IRL live-streaming and just embrace lolcowdom.. I would love that so much.

This was really a throwback. I really did forget how Sterling was going through bullshit lawsuits from angry devs at the time and had a show that was gaining popularity with people. Just that side of his history went away from my mind when the trans and wrestling stuff became prominent and show moved away from reviewing greenlight/slop games on Steam.

Really missed his ruthless critical reviews with some research from back then.

Well I also included his name and date of birth to identify who I am talking about, so I'll see what they say and file a request about the other address if need be.
