Genuine question, do you think that there is no difference between an anniemay from the 80s or 90s where there's like fighting or ninjas or whatever and a modern borderline pornographic anime that revolves around high school girls/outright lolicon shit/interspecies sex with a dog or catperson/incest?
Lolicon has been a blight on anime as a medium for a long time. It’s a consequence of the secondary market being poorly socialized shut-ins since the ‘80s, but that doesn’t qualify the entire medium from excision any more than the early
Shirley Temples,
Leon the Professional, or
Cuties qualifies movies for the same. But the focus on high school-aged girls is a cross between the main demographic for such a series being high school-aged boys and the fact there’s no better way to market to high school-aged boys than TnA.
The shift in more explicit depictions has a few causes: the increasing accessibility to pornography world-wide, a general market motivation to one-up each other in order to stand out, a shift to digital release, and the works of select individuals (mostly the likes of Kentaro Yabuki) to push the envelope of what can be portrayed. But this isn’t unique to manga or anime, it’s impacted every medium. And it still means you’re taking the worst minority of content and conflating it to the entire genre.
But exposure to sexual content, especially in this day and age, is a matter of not just routine but serial escalation which is easier to do using media that’s not anime. It’s how the troon groomers work, and they most universally jump straight to outright pornogrpahic works, animated or not, rather than a show that has titties once an episode. It’s well known the troons use cult tactics to isolate kids, which would be solved by any parent involvement.
All this really is the same moralfag fear-mongering, taking what could be valid criticism to improve things and using it to condemn an entire medium, stemming entirely from a sycophantic cargo cult of Null’s opinions.
