Unions are basically dying as a result of cheap labor flooding the market. Even non trade unions like teachers are dying but that's for other reasons (low pay, disrespectful students, etc). A lot of the unions endorse open border types for the most part because it's the shift in the left but old union leaders were very vocal about it and have warned about the consequences for years

Also a lot of unions are now in a 3 way split. The organizers and some younger people are socialists, the board members and chairman's still vote DNC blue, and a lot of the average union workers are now turning red. Mexicans were cheap labor for the trades, now Indians are what Mexicans were for trades, but with white-collar jobs

Gamergate was the original populist revolt against the authorities of the Left, and the Left used its institutional power to try and crush it, and they failed. Gamergate only died down when the people leading it started fighting each other, and people realized that the corrupt gaming journos were here to stay.

It's the rare example of a broken clock being right twice a day; Gamergate showed the people that the institutional Left can be defeated. It then led to being adapted to politics, with people being tired of the cultural Left picking Trump in 2016.
