Man in Critical Condition After Bike Collides With Unicycle in Central Park: NYPD

By Gus Saltonstall

A man is in critical condition after a bike collided with an electric unicycle in Central Park earlier this week, police said.

Around 4:30 p.m. on Monday, a 40-year-old man was riding his electric unicycle along West Drive in Central Park near 60th Street, when he was struck by a person on a bike, NYPD said. Electric unicycles are not legal on New York City streets, including in parks.

The unicycle rider suffered serious injuries throughout his body, and was rushed to Weill Cornell Medical Center in critical, but stable condition, according to police.

The person on the bike fled and police are now looking for them in connection to leaving the scene of a collision, NYPD said.

Police released this image of the person wanted in connection to the incident.

A man riding an electric unicycle through Central Park was critically hurt when he collided with a bicyclist who fled the scene, police said Wednesday.
Police arrested the hit-and-run bicyclist just hours after they released surveillance images of the suspect and asked the public’s help identifying her and tracking her down. She appeared bruised and had blood on her face.
The 40-year-old unicyclist was rolling through the iconic park along West Drive near W. 60th St. when he collided with 30-year-old Carolyn Backus, who was wearing a red tank top as she rode a bicycle with pink rubber handlebar grips, at about 4:30 p.m. Monday, according to cops.
Electric unicycles are illegal to operate in the city.

The victim was thrown off the unicycle and landed on the asphalt. Medics rushed him to New York-Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell where he was listed in critical but stable condition.
Backus allegedly sped off.
Cops recovered surveillance footage they say shows her taking the bike into a nearby subway station. She was arrested Wednesday morning and charged with leaving the scene of an accident that caused a serious injury, cops said.
Her arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court was pending Wednesday.

I hate cyclists and I hate those retarded electric unicycles. I wish they would outlaw them where I live. Nothing like taking a relaxing walk on a path to listen to birdsong only to be side swiped by some faggot riding a garish power tool at 35 mph.
I like to take a stroll or skate through a park and a nearby boardwalk, then those stupid rental electric scooters arrived here and had to be supert alert as to not to be hit by faggots zooming past on the sidewalks. Also reminds me that said boardwalk had signs EVERYWHERE telling you couldn't ride bikes there and yet people managed to ignore them all the time.

I like to take a winddown stroll as the birds are having their evensong. It's cool, the kids have gone home, I see the occasional friendly neighbor. And then- some idiot on an electrified vehicle going the speed limit, screeching "ON YER LEEEEEEEFFFFFTTTT."

edit: actually the more I look into it, going 70mph on a single wheel powered by explosive batteries and dubious Chinktronics is way cooler than faffing about on some hipster fixie cycle.
Its certainly a highly dangerous lifestyle, sort of like passing around a shared needle while getting rawdogged from behind by a guy with AIDS.
