I fucking hated always-online requirement for essentially singleplayer games ever since, as it's a devious form of DRM that inherently limits game's lifespan, because it relies on servers that will eventually be unplugged for one reason or another - it's merely a matter of time.
Its funny because most of these games, can run perfectly in your client, some like Warframe... All the enemies can be handled by your client without the need of having server connection... So there's no real problem to make the whole thing work on your client without needing a server or being able to local host. Just industry cope

It's clear to anyone who isn't a complete retard that online dependency in cases outside of genuine MMO games is meant to be a form of planned obsolescence, there's a reason it's mostly big publishers who's been consistently insisting on it.

Warframe uses P2P for most of its content, so they've implemented a lot of measures to make it as stable as possible, while allowing them to cut costs on servers by offloading much of the work on the client and thus player hardware. It's a very specific case, since it's likely one of those things that was born out of necessity when they were on the verge of closure.
I don't really consider GAAS with heavy emphasis on multiplayer like that as a first priority in this initiative, personally.

i dont think Mald will end up getting the LOTY award, mostly because hes not really as... "lol-able" as some others. Like yeah hes an annoying faggot, but i've had more laugh-out-loud moments from watching the continuous, never-ending, downward spiral of Anisa-and-I. (i probably butchered what weighs the most in picking the winner, but thats how i understood the award)
However, i do think that Mald should get some kind of "lifetime achievement" or "most impactful cow" award, for helping Ross pass the initiative.

Fortunately, Ludwig already gave us a great name/category for Mald's award!
Winning the Streamer Awards 2024 "League of their Own" award, and the Kiwi Farms Lolcow of the Year 2025 "League of their Own" award would be an accomplishment above all for Mald; it would certainly topple 7 years of Blizzard QA and writing switch cases with 1 variable!

It is an intentionally designed problem.
Same shit we saw with phones and other forms of tech.
They design it in so you have to buy the next slop after a period of time

A Faggot League of Their Own

This Lolcow is a pioneer that creates content so bad it makes everyone hate them. They fill a niche that unites everyone in absolute contempt for them. They're simply a in a league of their own faggotry.
This award goes to a lolcow who has become infamous for doing something so fucking gay it made everyone hate them.

You know, I just noticed that I've seen Mald make several comments stating he absolutely did not fuck the ferrets (we know he did but that's besides the point) and dismissing every rumor...

...Except for the gnome. I don't think I've seen him comment on the poop gnome at all. It's not like he hasn't seen it in every reply to his tweets, including ones that mention the ferret-fucking. If it were so easy for him to just say "Dude it's just a garden gnome I kept in the bathroom because I'm a quirky reddit nerd" he'd say it, so what the fuck about it makes him so avoidant of the topic? Does he still have the gnome? Did he actually put the gnome inside of his gamer-hole?

I know enough about programing to know what a switch statement is but not enough to know why its a bad thing to use for games, could someone explain?
They're fine for games. The example provided here that included a switch statement just illustrates Mald's tendency to over-complicate code when he doesn't need to. That is, he spent 20 lines of code to express a task that could be accomplished in one.

Now for such a simple case like this, if this was being done in C/C++, I'm fairly confident the GCC or clang/LLVM optimizer would actually figure out what that switch statement was doing and reduce it to the simple assignment, at least if the "character facing X direction" was coded as static properties or even #defines. Who knows if the language he's using is being pushed through a compiler or interpreter smart enough to figure that out though.

In compiled languages with decent optimizers, switch statements can often be transformed into truth tables or dispatch trees, so it's not literally executing each and every comparison in the statement every time it's encountered (it just jumps to the point in the table/tree represented by the value being tested). But the pathological case happens when the compiler (or interpreter) doesn't figure that out, and does wind up executing every comparison in turn until one passes. In this case, that's not too painful (a handful of instructions instead of just one). In e.g. YandereDev's example (thousands of cases), that shit gets expensive fast (thousands of instructions instead of just one).

I don't know if this was mentioned earlier in the thread but I'm assuming it hasn't. I want to put an example of a online game where the publisher shut down due to financial reasons, an older mmo. They made the game free on steam and distributed the server files on steam also for free. ANYBODY who used to play this or heard of it can quite literally host their own server for friends or play the game by themselves.

Anybody who says SKG is wrong because they will have to rewrite shit is 110$ VERIFIABLE fucking retarded and I hope you are sterile so your bloodline dies out. Fuck you. I know you read this threat Goon Software. I know you do. I hope you see this post. Fuck you.

"Edit" On thing I forgot to mention. The game Perpetuum was basically turned over to the community. It still gets updates on steam. A game from 2014. No fucking excuses.
Here's a github link as well for the game if you also want the source code.

There's also OpenPerpetuum which is another github with more updates that's used to run the community made server. Also linking it here for people who are curious.

I have looked at more pictures of that garden gnome than I care to think of.
And none of them even the ones outside of people's homes.
Have a weird brown ring around the hat's base

on "good luck soloing raids" comment,
Well if we can run out own servers, we can tweak those raids to make them solo'able, dev's balance choices be damned.

This echo chamber can't get any thicker.
They are so fucking angry they can't shut down conversations outside their echo chamber. He and his jannies scrub his discord, subreddit and twitch chats because those are the only places where they have such control. They can't touch anything else, so they're at the "well fuck those people anyway!" coping stage since it's all they have left. You love to see it. This is late-stage purity spiral -- the moment a "community" turns insular, chases off anyone new, and starts devouring itself from within.

I think the SimCity (2013) launch proved this point better than any example ever since. They got a lot of pushback prior to launch (and even after launch) for insisting on making it an always-online game that required constant server interactions because the "intelligent agents" that made the game work couldn't be done client-side and just had to rely on their uber-powerful server hardware to function.

Then shortly after launch someone found a simple tweak to completely sever that requirement and proved absolutely every element of the game (agents and all) was perfectly functional offline and running locally, i.e. the dev and publisher lied through their fucking teeth. To this day it remains one of the most disastrous game releases in modern history.

It's very telling when I asked bing (heh) for "latest SimCity release," it replied "The latest release of SimCity is SimCity 4 Deluxe (1.1.641). It includes the core game, the SimCity: Cities of Tomorrow expansion pack, and additional City sets." Even the "AI" shit is memory-holing that god-awful joke of a game.

Amazing how on his twitter graph post he completely fails to analyze the data and once again ignores the entire context around his videos. He basically became the leading voice using his algorithm boosted channel and scared every other content creator that knew less on the topic, who are also just huge crowd pleasers in general. And after everything this nigger has the gall to yet again bring up the subject while play the victim card... Yet, yet again. I expected no less from the CEO of Blizzard.

My guess is it's for the same reason he always keept saying that the hate mobs originated from Reddit, instead of KF. Because he doesn't want his sycophants to even know of KF's existence. If they would then they could read some incriminating stuff. Poop gnome as far as I know was only posted on the Farms and nowhere else. So I guess this is why he avoids this topic like fire. To not bring any attention to it and to the Farms.

King roach the Ferret Fucker went on stream talking a bit about SKG and why he "left" Offbrand Games.

Notable points

  • Claims it was his own idea to leave the company.
  • Claims he got swatted on Tuesday after a message saying; "YOUR TIME HAS COME"
  • Says its impossible to track the guys who swatted him because they used a "VOIP number" (This is not true and a very fucking retarded, Feds can ask his provider to track it down.)
  • "Hope they give you want you want instead of actually what you ask for" Does not elaborate on what he means, Threatens to ban anyone mentioning SKG.

you can parkour and have two tabs open, one for the malding and one for the SKG.
Haha. To think I'd stop at 2.

I believe knowing really complicated solutions to every problem isn't what makes you a genius
it's when to use those complicated solutions at the right time, and when not to.
Also being able to communicate highly technical and complex solutions to different groups of people. It's easy to talk about giganerd shit with other giganerds because they speak the same language. It's a whole n'other thing to talk to business niggers (aka MBA). If you can break down some highly technical concept in a way that the business nigger truly understands from their perspective, that's simplicity in it's purest form.
I'm sure he can spin up a Docker image or whatever, but even leaving all the bullshit like "rEtRoAcTiVe" aside (can you read, motherfucker?), he just keeps spouting vagueties like "20 servers", "different hardware", "third party", "people don't understand". It's like he wants to present the entire software/hardware "stack" as magic, which it obviously isn't. It's just software. Sure, maybe my grandma won't be able to run it, but you don't need to be a "software engineer with 20 years of experience to run this shit". The "licensing" "argument" is retarded beyond comrehension. Do middleware vendors want money? Yes? Then they'll fucking adapt. Holy fuck, this isn't difficult.
What's crazy is that Mald would lead you to believe SKG is a novel idea, which highlights his lack of experience outside of Blizzard. Many projects (good ones at least) develop handover/turnover plans and processes when the ownership of said project shifts to a different organization or entity. It basically deals with knowledge management and generally making sure the old organization is able to onboard the new organization so the project can still be developed or serve it's purpose after the ownership change. SKG is effectively the same fucking concept except the solution is slightly more technical and applied to the vidya game industry.

Ofc he wouldn't understand shit like that because he was coddled at Blizzard because of his dad
