I was able to secure part time employment after 16 weeks and wanted to return to work. I wasn’t required to do anything treatment wise by the state, they did not demand I go to x group or take y meds, but I did need a doctor’s note attesting that I had a temporary disability due to mental health reasons. (The process to get on permanent disability is more rigorous and would involve sharing more health information with the state and the SSA, who would then assess the severity of the claimed disability, though the exact procedures by which they make that assessment are obviously very different in Massachusetts vs New Zealand.)

In either location though you’d need to have doctors documentation saying that you got depression, it’s bad enough that you can’t work, and that first line treatment (eg Prozac or something) didn’t help.

I don’t think it’s that doctors are only up for letting trannies on the dole, it’s that trannies are better at exploiting this system to their benefit. Being looney enough to want your dick off probably helps sell it tbf.
