Sony hate thread

seen some absolute meltdowns about HD2 on Xbox, people are starting to realise that exclusives are a dying breed
Exclusives are what keeps a platform healthy. It's no coincidence that Sony and Microsoft suffered when they opened their systems to backwards comparability and stopped launching new games for new hardware.
Nintendo understand it well enough, which is why they have the best selling console in history (Switch) and fastest selling console in history (Switch 2).

Sony and MS will look at the Switch and conclude "it must be selling well because it's handheld", missing the point entirely, even though most people play their switch docked.

People buy Nintendo hardware because it is the only "sanctioned" way to play Nintendo games day 1. It also greatly helps that Nintendo, unlike Sony and Microsoft, has not killed their own legacy. There is an invaluable power in being stewards of a heritage of games that can be traced to the origins of the hobby. Mario. Zelda and Metroid started on the NES and there will be Mario, Zelda and Metroid on Switch 2. Sony nor Microsoft can boast of such a continuous lineage.

At this point it should certainly receive a price cut though.

*laughs in Nintendo as Switch 1 hardware will go up in price in Canada and other regions because of "market conditions"*

I'm surprised, supposedly japs are all about portability. The regular Switch is an unwieldy behemoth, not as big or heavy as Steam Deck but still chunky, and with far inferior ergonomics. Switch Lite is uncomfortable as hell too but at least it's relatively light and small. At this point it should certainly receive a price cut though.
I mean, all 3 models are portable, it's just that the lite is ONLY portable. Portability is a big factor for them, but to act like they don't have tvs at all would be disingenuous, so being a hybrid does have value. As it stands, I, personally at least, feel like the lite is definitely the worst value proposition even at its lower price, the screen is just that bad. The OLED screen especially if you're using it in handheld mode rather often justifies its $50 price bump far more than the lite justifies only being $100 off if we're using the base model as a comparison.

Maybe just me but I move my Switch between 3 docks. Mostly docked play, but it being portable really makes that work. You can't easily do that with a PS5, even if you have two you're down to save syncing rather than just picking up from the exact spot and going.

In a similar vein, it makes it really easy to hook up when I'm over with friends and family, and we're in the mood for Mario Kart, I can just pop my switch into their already hooked up dock since I've got the booster courses.

If you can't pocket it then it's only technically portable, it's not practical. The Lite screen looks fine, I've used a regular Switch and I can't even tell the difference, though I have no doubt OLED looks much better. I always hoped they'd release a Switch Lite OLED.

I never thought of that. You can have one console, but have a console in every room. That's very cool.

It continues to amaze me how people can look at Nintendo 30 years ago compared to today and reach the conclusion that nothing has changed and everything is hunky dory.
If sales figures are any indication, you bet your ass everything is hunky dory for them compared to the start of the PS1.
That sounds like cope. Every single one of these companies are killing their legacy.
It's not over until we lose Kirby.

Nintendo 30 years ago:
"Here is game. You can play game. It comes with lots of stuff. We worked harder with limited technology to make it look pretty"

Nintendo now:
"IM GOING TO RAPE YOUR WALLET IN THE ASSHOLE!!! Also no more free online, suck it bitch! Yes we have the technology, but no we won't use it to it's advantage because fuck you!"

I'm talking IP presence. Nintendo is one of the few video game companies that has managed to maintain relevant many series and characters from their early beginnings. There is always a new mainline or spin-off Mario, Zelda, Metroid or any other legacy franchise game in the works. Look how they even are making these properties relevant to a wider audience through movies and theme parks. Compare that to properties and characters that Sony owns form the PS1, PS2 or even PS3 gens that they left fall by the wayside as there are no efforts or interest in the company to create new revivals, sequels or follow ups.

Regarding Nintendo, if you are talking their old 8 and 16 bit games, it is a valid to state that they are doing a lousy job making those games easily available through official channels and they are absolutely virulent about destroying anyone distributing those old games through unofficial channels, I'm not defending the attitude of the company in any way.

Playstation just like Xbox are becoming obselete now. What's the point of owning one if I can just play their exclusives on the PC uncensored and with mods? Nintendo won't ever port their shit over to the PC but they're not perfect with their business practices.
