Never been (thank GOD) but Ohio and Indiana home values seem to rely on proximity to the Walmart Supercenter.
I (accidentally) drove through Ohio once late at night on a cross country trip, Google took me through the state when I intended initially on going a different way. No big deal, it would get me where I was going around the same time so I kept moving along. When I was about an hour and a half into the state I started looking for a place to sleep. When I do these trips I stop at truck stops or rest areas, put ear plugs in, and sleep in my car. Most of the time there is a rest stop along the highway or a truck stop close to an exit. No such luck in Ohio. I was a full hour away from the nearest rest stop, and every time I would hit an exit to look around for a truck stop or a suitable gas station I would be met with dilapidated single story shacks covered in peeling paint next to railroad tracks. There were hardly any street lights and everything was dark. There were no 24 hour gas stations or rest stops anywhere that I felt safe stopping for the night in, even with my CCW. I did this about 3 or 4 times to get the exact same result as the last area before I decided to just push to the rest stop. This was about an hour or two away from Akron. The rustbelt just hits different. It felt like I was the only human walking the earth after a plague or something, the buildings and the roads were there but no one was left. Maybe it was just the night but I haven't felt like that anywhere else.
Where did you enter through? Unless you do the Cincinnati/Columbus/Cleveland line there isn't really shit in that state.
