Serious question, no booly: they may want to get Chantal’s passport, I can believe that. But how are they going to use it when it belongs to a woman who looks more grizzly than human? Do the photos and details need to match? If they can be adjusted easily, why steal a passport, why not make one?
I have to imagine the reasons to steal her Canadian passport could be the following:
1. Identity theft for online opening of accounts or fraud (lol, jokes on them with Chantals record)
2. Criminal enterprises now have a recent Canadian passport to compare and test their own duplicates against; think security features, background paper analysis, replication/synthesis, etc. . Could use this technology for orgs/govts in unstable historically questionable hostile M.E. countries like the one she's in. . .
3. Can't use for international travel or high level processes. . . but for some random jeets or local Syrian authorities at the market or commerce groups? -- "Hell yeah, here's some taped on photo over Gunts mug. This is my Western Wasta/cousin/me. Give me a 2010 Hyundai."
4. Take this for whatever value Google says, but $1000 for the original, and up to $8000 after its altered for a Maple Passport? As

5. Blackmail, extortion, intimidation, you name it. Stealing her passport yields ABSOLUTE power over her in a warzone and country thats "lawless" (according to her). They can easily do that to her, or ransom it off to family members i.e. Schmee, since her blood relations and internet history are so well documented. Wouldn't this effectively prevent her from leaving Syria since they don't even have an embassy to get her a temporary lost copy? You know criminals could extort the hell out of our glorious Gunt this way, let alone any Westerner.
