The other nation is based around Rural areas, originally made of yeoman farmers and landed gentry but now extended to all ruralites. They all generally have the same beliefs: Christian (believers or cultural), Land owning, not educated (this doesn't mean stupid or ignorant), individualist etc.

Aside from how boring it is, I'd recommend reading Albion's Seed, because it posits there are at least four separate cultural zones from the Colonial US based on settlement patterns from specific parts of Britain. I wouldn't even say the divide is between urban and rural, because many cities are unbelievably different from one another. My general thesis is that you can safely divide the US into Northeast, Midwest, Plains/Mountain States, Pacific Northwest, Alaska, Hawaii, California, Southwest (maybe), Texas, the South, and Southern Florida as distinct cultural regions that basically serve as their own countries.
