Nintendo is one of the few video game companies that has managed to maintain relevant many series and characters from their early beginnings.
The equivalent of skinwalking.
God of war got a lot of crap for going from fast paced action game to walking simulator, but Nintendo does that shit every decade or so with their mainline titles

Change or die. I'd argue that Nintendo's secret is that it specifically doesn't let most series get stale by doing the same thing over and over again. There are exceptions, Mario Sports, Mario Party, but other series regularly change things up and reset their stories and that is a good thing from an audience perspective.

What does that mean? What Nintendo franchises became walking sims?
I didn't say they turned into walking sims, I meant they're changing over time as developers and trends change.
For example a lot of people fell off when every nintendo game had to include wii mote gameplay in the wii games. I remember trying skyward sword and Mario galaxy and deciding that shit wasn't my cup of tea

I'm playing New Super Mario Wii U right now, I'm shocked how much harder that is compared to Wonder. It makes it look like a walking sim.

I don't see the problem then with just letting the old franchise rest and do something new.
I'd rather see Jak stay a relic of the platforming era and Killzone be a relic of the military shooter era than see what they would look like being made for a "modern audience"
I don't need to make a soy face because it's the tenth donkey kong game since 1985

Jak would probably be fine if they had kept it up, same as Ratchet was. And maybe Daxter wouldn't be the single ugliest video game creature ever created anymore either. But because they haven’t kept it up Playstation now has a comparative lack of all ages titles and is struggling to maintain PS4 era numbers even while on-boarding former Xbox buyers.

Looking at how the attempt at reviving Crash Bandicoot went I don't think the problem is a lack of old platformer titles for children.
It's just that the perception ever since the wii age is that a nintendo is a toy, you buy toys for your four year old.
You don't buy a playstation or Xbox for a young child.

Yes. Every Nintendo franchise is terrible because they never change anything and when they change something they’re terrible because it’s not like the older games.

Ballad of Antara is another live service game releasing this year.

Sony are re-re-releasing TLoU2, now in chronological order.

Available for players as part of a downloadable update today, we've introduced a new way to play the story of The Last of Us Part II like never before – chronologically.

Those who have already played will know its story is told non-linearly, as Ellie and Abby's motivations, realizations, and emotional stakes unfold across myriad flashbacks and present-day storylines. While this structure is very intentional and core to how our studio wanted Part II's themes and narrative beats to impact players, we always wondered what it would be like to experience this story chronologically. And now finally, we can answer that question.

Ghost of Tsushima is having a state of play on the 10th. Should be a good laugh.

I don't think children play platformers nowadays. Platformers are for autistic manchildren. Kids play survival craft slop, roblox, gacha, and F2P live service shooters.

Nintendo 30 years ago was when the PS1 was eating their lunch while they came up with increasingly convoluted ways of passing the cost of protecting their IP onto the consumers by using cartridges. What the fuck are you guys talking about.
PS1's library is bigger and better in the objective sense, but 1st party & Rare carried N64 really hard. It was better to me as a kid. I also find myself going back to its library more often even now, PS1 is a lot of one-and-done affairs, but I'm always down to play some Pokemon or whatever.

I think we need a DKC TV show revival.
Retain the rudimentary graphics and bring back the original team and I'd unironically watch it.

That's depressing.

what is funny is that roblox has platforming maps in it...

I mean if you're in America or some part of europe then sure, otherwise its the complete opposite in most parts of the world where Nintendo only dominated in the handheld scene.

Children still love traditional 2D Mario games but thats kind of it.
