Most people here dont make distinctions between the mercantile and academic-marxist interests because they're both very strongly overlapped. Consider that the modern landscape of business is one of over-credentialed executives. Those credentials don't just come from nowhere. For all intents and purposes they're one in the same.

China has a bunch of ghost cities which are literally full scale urban cities that don't have a single resident. They exist solely for the purpose of make work and increased GDP/prestige.

Those cities are constructed preemptively due to people in rural areas moving; the BBC, CNN, etc were talking about them in the early 2010s and basically all of them now are at 70% of their capacity, truthfully yes there is tons of fraud within the Chinese real estate industry but don't act like China builds those cities for no purpose whatsoever.
